We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Deaf Poets’ new song “King (Don’t Matter)” (listen below). The track is taken from the band’s upcoming album Lost In Magic City, which is scheduled to be released on May 5th.
Deaf Poets comments on the song:
“‘King (Don’t Matter)’ was a late addition to the record. We wrote the song as we were finalizing the tracks to ‘LiMC.’ The song is about our ups and downs of growing up playing music together. Somewhere along the years, we seemed to have forgotten why we started playing together. ‘King (Don’t Matter)’ is our reminder that we started because it’s all we ever wanted to do and its what truly makes us happy. We are going to keep pushing forward no matter what happens.”

About Deaf Poets:
Hell-bent on bringing the raw grit back to Rock & Roll, Deaf Poets signature lo-fi sound resonates far beyond their home base of South Florida. Their effortlessly vintage cool tunes suggests Detroit, Nashville, New Orleans, but they are proof that the love of raucous rock is global and slick, modern Miami Beach is as good a place as any to make it.
The two-piece band consisting of Sean Wouters (Lead Vocals / Guitar) and Nico Espinosa (Vocals / Percussion) aim to create music that fosters community and collaboration, “the mechanics of today’s music industry are insanely complex,” marvels Wouters. “The idea that we all live in a time where everything is so readily available and accessible has lead our attention spans to be unforgiving. With collaboration we can bring more artists together building once again a community.” Espinosa also adds they hope the music can serve as “reminder that music is an art form and it’s supposed to evoke emotions and not always be strictly business.”
Their music is the embodiment of hard-hitting drums with distortion-soaked guitars. Wouter’s childhood influences, such as Jimmy Page and Kurt Cobain, led the duo to combine elements of 70s rock, with the aggressiveness of 80s punk, and an added aspect of 90s grunge to define their sound. The pair met in elementary school; and during their high school years, they went through a long process of musical experimentation, which ultimately led to the founding of Deaf Poets. “Music just always felt right and I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else,” said Wouters. “I was never driven by the idea of fame or success but to truly express myself in what I feel is sacred and especially sharing that with my best friend.”
The duo cemented their place in the South Florida indie scene by performing at numerous music venues across the city – ultimately earning the title, “Best Band of Miami” in 2014 as well as being apart of the, “20 Most Influential People of Miami” award in 2015, by The Miami New Times. Their single, “Degenerate Mind”, from their debut album ‘4150’ was selected to be a part of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 video game soundtrack and was also featured in Classic Rock Magazine‘s compilation CD in 2014.
The accolades don’t stop there – Deaf Poets have become regulars at iiiPoints music festival, performing for four years in a row alongside acts like Mac Demarco and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. In 2015, Deaf Poets supported the indie dance duo, Matt and Kim, and have also shared the stage with dynamic acts including Best Coast, The Naked And Famous, Thievery Corporation, Ted Leo and The Pharmacists, and more. - New Noise Magazine
Florida-based garage rock duo Deaf Poets will release their new album, 'Lost in Magic City,' this spring. In anticipation, the band has teamed up with Revolver to premiere their new song and music video, "Celestine." Check it out below and let us know what you think in the comments!
Vocalist/percussionist Nico Espinosa said, "The video was filmed and edited by filmmaking duo, Dogs of Passion. We filmed the video in a span of four nights around Sean's house as well as prominent urban areas around Miami. We filmed from dusk to dawn practically nonstop. The plot for the video was brought in by DOP and we collaborated to come up with the final product. It was an extremely fun and professional experience. Everyone that was part of it gave it 110 percent and we couldn't be happier with the outcome.
"The video shows our character Celestine (Rachel Miller) seeking retribution with her bow and arrow. We follow the characters through a chase around the city of Miami with an ultimate showdown at the end of the video."

Dance music blares through all the trendiest Miami nightspots – so it’s refreshing to hear some genuine rock & roll coming out of the scene. And indeed, Sean Wouters and Nico Espinosa, as Deaf Poets, have been making beautiful noise in the FLA capital of culture since 2014 – while also taking to the road with the likes of Best Coast and The Naked & Famous.
Their sexy, psychedelic garage rock combines the epic howl of Led Zep with the fierce anxiety of Smashing Pumpkins, all perfectly realized on the wicked new single “Celestine,” which BlackBook premieres here.
“It’s about a person whose outward image doesn’t match their inner persona, there’s a darker side to them that cannot be seen on the surface. We wanted to convey this not only in the lyrics but with the arrangement as well, as ‘Celestine’ goes from a heavy rhythm to a lighter tone during the chorus – which helps contrast the character.”
Don’t be afraid of the dark. - BlackBook
Brace for impact. Here comes some nasty guitar licks courtesy of Brooklyn-via-Miami duo Deaf Poets. The pair are teaming up with Loudwire to bring you the exclusive premiere of their new song "Change & Bloom," which is featured on the upcoming EP of the same name.
The driving rocker rides a wicked groove throughout and is pretty representative of what's come. Singer-guitarist Sean Wouters and drummer Nico E.P. generate quite a bit of sound, pulling from '70s rock, '80s punk and '90s grunge for inspiration.

"Change & Bloom" was born out of the pair's desire to relocate. They tell us, "We wanted to dwell on the feeling of being stuck and inevitably affecting progression. In order to flourish and head into the path of self discovery, one must make drastic decisions that sometimes include letting go of the things you love the most. The chorus echos this notion with the lines, 'My wasted years trying to change and bloom ... my future is written and it’s not with you.'"
Deaf Poets will release their Change & Bloom EP on June 15 via Wax Romantix. Each track on the disc was inspired by personal experience and current events that occurred during their relocation from Florida to New York. Check out the artwork and track listing posted just below the title track. You can also look for Deaf Poets rocking New York's Bowery Electric tonight (April 10) and playing Brooklyn's St. Vitus on May 1. - Loudwire

This Brooklyn-via-Miami Beach duo rocks it out of the park just as you’d expect from a dead-pan, graphic novel of your life that you’d never had – but wanted. We want it. We rock with them. Deaf Poets announced the new upcoming EP ‘Change & Bloom’.
Take us back to the world of ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’, ‘The Crow’ you two. The delicious sexiness of the riffs and the vocals make up sip at the liquor that you provide.

Bio
Deaf Poets are an American garage/alternative rock duo consisting of Sean Wouters (Lead Vocals/Guitar) and Nico Espinosa (Vocals/Percussion), born in Miami Beach, FL and currently residing in Brooklyn, NY. Their music is unabashedly raw, raucous, and loud, raging through the wild buzz and hiss of Wouter’s distorted guitars and the fever-pitch hits and pulsating momentum of Espinosa’s drums. Their boyhood rock and roll idols, from Jimmy Page to Kurt Cobain, eventually became their influences as they combined elements of ‘70s rock and a shot of ‘90s grunge to define their sound.
Deaf Poets cemented their place in the South Florida music scene by performing at venues across the region. In 2014, they were awarded the title, “Best Band of Miami” and were included in the, “20 Most Influential People of Miami” in 2015, by The Miami New Times. Their single, “Degenerate Mind”, from their debut album, “4150”, was selected to be a part of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 video game soundtrack and was also featured in Classic Rock Magazine's compilation CD in 2014. Deaf Poets have become regulars at Miami’s iiiPoints music festival performing four years in a row, alongside acts like Mac Demarco and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Since 2015, Deaf Poets have spent much of their time on the road, touring and sharing the stage with Matt and Kim, The Growlers, Best Coast, The Naked and Famous, The Psychedelic Furs and DOROTHY. In 2017, Deaf Poets released their sophomore album “Lost In Magic City”, before relocating to New York in 2018 and releasing their latest EP, “Change and Bloom”, their most ambitious and personal work to date.
