"Strain’s Dream Band"

As many in the local metal community already know, 5BD has been in limbo since the departure of guitarist Alex over a year ago to play with Cannae. Not one to site around, Strain decided to start a side project called Dead Mens Dreams.

“I have no hard feelings against any member for 5 Billion Dead”, stated former vocalist Strain regarding his departure from one of the top metal bands. “They are still my friends, and I would also like to wish 5BD good luck in the future!”

5BD finally found a suitable replacement guitarist, but by that time Strain’s head was in a different place and fully committed to Dead Mens Dreams. “When 5BD would get together and jam, I found it hard to sing and growl the way I used to,” explained Strain, “and it was hurting my throat. The new way I was singing with my new band wasn’t cutting it for 5BD, and I didn’t want to revert back to my old ways, or hold 5BD back. So that right there was the biggest reason why I quit 5BD.”

Now a fully operational band, DMD consists of Strain, former Response Negative drummer Jim McCourt, former Stillkept guitarist Claude ‘Zilla’, and former LO bassist Perry. The band has been writing songs for the past six months and recendtly recorded a full length CD at Mana recording studio with producer Brian Elliot (Cellador, The Absence, Soilent Green). “Seeing how my new friends in my side project were so gung-ho about getting things done and recorded,” said strain, “I was blown away by their enthusiasm!”

DMD currently has lots of live shows in the works to support the new soon to be released CD, including a date at the Haven on July 20th with the newly reformed Devolve, Fields Of Glass, & Asphalt. To hear some DMD tunes and for other info, you can hit the band’s website (www.deadmensdreams.com) or myspace page (myspace.com/deadmensdreams). As for the 5 Billion Dead fans, rest assured they are still intact and searching for a new vocalist. - Connections Magazine – Orlando, FL (July 2007)

"What You're Doing This Week"

http://www.orlandoweekly.com/blog/music.asp?perm=1796

A night of quality local metal is going down at the Social. Empyrean is getting a good bit of attention these days, and Gorillafight is possessed of not only a great name, but an equally vicious aproach. However, my money's on Dead Mens Dreams. Despite their (somewhat joking) penchant for getting their picture taken in corpsepaint, DMD is nothing at all like the basement-bound black-metallers you think they look like. Instead, it's all heavy classic metal riffage, with a wide streak of modern brutality mixed in. These guys have been on a hiatus lately, as they wanted to woodshed for a while to write the songs for their second CD, and who knows how long it will be until they play again, so get there early to catch 'em. - Orlando Weekly (Jan.1 - Jan.8)

What do you think it would be like to write songs about being dead? We write our music as if we were long dead and gone... things we would think about if we were dead. Remember the couple from the movie Beetlejuice that had recently died and didn't know what they were doing? Well that's kind of where we're coming from with our music.

Our story,
Not even death could come between these musicians and their instruments, and on Strain’s first night on the other side he was determined to start a new band, be he dead or Alive. Strain quickly found one member for his new band at the Necropolis, a popular Mortuary among the deceased. Strain didn't have to ask Jim to join his band twice; the two began working on a basic concept for Dead Mens Dreams and set out looking for some equally dedicated players. After a few months of auditioning guitarists it finally came down to a newly deceased friend, Claud‘zilla’, and came in and nailed it. His ultra heavy sound and groove-laden riffs were exactly what Strain and Jim were looking for.

Dead Mens Dreams recorded a 2-song demo at Audio Daze studios, those tracks were “The Dead are Dreaming”, and “Machines Will Take Our Souls”. These 2 tracks were as eerie as they were heavy. Fans of the band were labeling them Dead Rockers. It came as no surprise that everyone that heard them asked for more.

Dead Mens Dreams recorded a full-length album “The Dead Are Dreaming” at Mana Recording. Behind the mixing desk was producer Brian Elliot (Cellador, The Absence, Soilent Green). In a very short period of time DMD constructed a sound very unique. A heart pounding, earthshaking, rhythm section under monster riffs, combined with haunting vocal melodies, Dead Mens Dreams dead rock has been unleashed to the underground.

We recently recorded our new song "Prophecy Rising" @ Catacomb Studios in Orlando FL, and we're currently working on the video for this song.
