It’s safe to say that 2021 has been an impressive year for releases in the heavy music scene, with staples such as Architects and While She Sleeps putting out some of the best releases of their entire career and newcomers like Spiritbox and Dying Wish taking the music scene by storm with their debut full-lengths. Unsurprisingly, there was a slew of records that went seemingly unnoticed on release day, one of which being What Doesn’t Kill You, the debut record from St. Louis metalcore project Dead Wolvs.
What Doesn’t Kill You is an easily digestible 8-track record that leaves you hitting that replay button after it’s 29-minute runtime is through. “Jane” sets the in-your-face tone of the rest of the album in the first 5 seconds of play; with crashing percussion, frantic panic chords, and deep gutturals blowing out your ear drums - in a good way, of course. A tasteful fusion of modern metalcore and melodic post-hardcore, I’m immediately reminded of Capstan’s 2021 album Separate.
Later, “Lost” introduces an atmospheric progression to Dead Wolvs style that sounds like a much-desired fusion of Underoath’s biggest releases, They’re Only Chasing Safety and Define The Great Line. “Lost” leads directly into the clear standout track on the album, “Everything I Fear,” a track that is equally heavy as it is catchy. Featuring a breakdown that will have you kicking your roommates door down so they can join in the carnage, “Everything I Fear” is now available on our official playlists.
“You only get one chance / To live a life of worth / Don’t fuck it up” ring out the final seconds of “Living a Nightmare,” bringing this impactful record to a memorable conclusion. Sparing no sense of heavy instrumentation, this hardcore-esque track would sound right at home on the latest Counterparts record.
Ultimately, Dead Wolvs have delivered an intense and powerful record that makes them an easy add to the list of bands to watch in 2022. - Scene Daddy

Bio
Dead Wolvs are among the next evolution of heavy music acts fusing modern metalcore and melodic post-hardcore to trigger fans of early 2000’s scene staples, such as Underoath and Every Time I Die. Crafting unique soundscapes rooted in nostalgic aggression, Dead Wolvs are proud to bring an innovative flair to a familiar sound on their debut 2021 album ‘What Doesn’t Kill You’. Songs like "Jane" and "Everything I Fear" set the pissed-off tone of the record with their pummelling instrumentals and raw vocal delivery, while songs like “Lost” and “Safety” introduce a reserved atmospheric tone and self-reflective lyricism that showcase the versatility this band possesses.
Formed in 2018, Illinois-based Dead Wolvs is a creative outlet of expression for each band member to break free from the shackles of past projects, emphasized by the passion and sonic aggression of their debut material. ‘What Doesn’t Kill You’ was self-recorded and produced, with collaborations from Grayson Stewart of Norma Jean (“Everything I Fear”). Since its release, ‘What Doesn’t Kill You’ has garnered thousands of streams and provided the foundation needed for their highly acclaimed, highly energetic live performances.
Dead Wolvs are constantly one-upping their past material, while actively working on new music to follow up their impressive introduction to the scene. With three new songs on the immediate horizon and a new album expected in early 2023, expect an even heavier and more aggressive version of Dead Wolvs very soon.
