Raine Biography:
Clive Davis recently said, after keeping David Raine’s cd on his desk for a week, "I like it. Its good writing, and strong vocals. I don't know yet what to do with it." You can’t expect just typical Pop from David Raine, but you can expect memorable melodies and thought provoking lyrics layered with powerful and passionate vocals. The influences span from Joni Mitchell, Prince, Marvin Gaye, Jimi, and Steven Tyler. Then there's Bowie, Lennon, The Pixies, and Tears for Fears. The ideal sound for David would be to morph a 60s feel, 80s brightness, and present time coolness together for his audience.
Internationally recognized songwriter/singer and performer, David Raine has mastered a sound of his own. Its like Soul pulling Rock off a steep cliff. Although, at times his compositions call for Soul to let go and let Rock...
Raine has enjoyed the honor of being acknowledged and respected by many artists and industry types around the world. His 3 piece band was being courted by John Entwistle just before his unfortunate death. Rick Ocasek claimed to have Raine’s first band demo at his home in NY. He has co written with Austrian writer, Siegfried Walch for (Natural Songs), started the RedRaine Production Company with writer Jed Davis, during which time he wrote and produced for soul singer, Anitra Brooks and rapper, Young Zigg. As for his own works he has recorded with guitarists/writers, Gabriel Gordon, Charles Everette and writer/producer, Wayne Cohen (Stand Up Music). David has performed his works throughout Europe and the Middle East. He has also enjoyed local recognition in the US while playing many club dates and some festivals like; The Cape May Singer-Songwriters/Launch Music Fest/ and the Milleneum Music Conference. David’s favorite gig (outside of playing Mercury Lounge the night after Frank Black played) is performing for the The Gap's 40th Birthday celebration.
This sparked a dream of one day touring with a message and the support of a large “brand” to truly bring wonderful new music to the World.
David was also a well known model at one time. He was the face for Brooks Bros and Banana Republic as well as many large commercial and fashion companies around the World.
He was hired by both Jim Rado (writer of “Hair”) and George Faison (choreographer of “The Wiz”) to bring his voice and presence to their stage musical projects. So, David is no stranger to the "whole package" concept.
The idea is to reach people. David Raine will use his platform to bring thoughtful Soul/Rock music into the mainstream.
