Bio
David Cohen is an award winning, multi-instrumentalist, composer of music for the classical & flamenco guitar, recording artist and educator. David's started out in Philadelphia and his studies on the guitar have led him to California, Nevada, New York, New Jersey and back home to Philadelphia.
Along with the guitar, David has studied the Turkish Oud, Chinese Pipa and highland bagpipes. David's first CD titled DAVID COHEN: GUITAR contains eleven original tracks that combines musical elements from the instruments he plays.
David picked up the guitar after hearing the guitar playing of Joan Armatrading in the mid-seventies. Other influences include: Michael Dunford (Renaissance), Bill Nelson (Bebop Delux), Paco DeLucia, Joni Mitchell, Buddy Guy, Paco Pena, Carlos Rubio, Sabicas, Rufus Harley, Nina Simone, Bach, Mussorgsky and Beethoven.
David performs along the east coast has always taken his music out of the standard playing venues for his music. He's taken his guitar into dive bars, rock clubs, jazz bars, hip-hop festivals and of course the concert stage associated with classical music.
David maintains teaching studios in Philadelphia and Ocean Grove, New Jersey.
