What inspires your music? My promise to my father(RIP) that I would take my talents and try my hardest to make something out of it come hell or highwater is the driving engine of my music. Also, life inspires my music, sometimes I enjoy just watching what goes on at a party or at a store and try to put that into words. I remember how I felt when I was a teenager and I heard Renegade and I got goosebumps from the words I was hearing from Em and Jay or heard Ether from Nas and felt like the landscape of hip hop changed. I want to give that feeling to the game, I want to be more than just another artist and that is my true inspiration.
How would you classify your music? If Chuck Taylors and a backpack had a soundtrack it would be produced, written and performed by me. I see my music as purely an depth look into the soul of an everyday guy. A pure hip-hop guy who can astound you with lyrical content, make you laugh, make you think and at some points make you cry. Though I'm not big fan of being labeled or having a classification I would just describe my music as a roller coaster of emotions, feelings, beats and words.
How would you describe yourself as an artist? As an artist I have benefited from living in MD most of my life, and what I mean is being in the middle of the southeast and the northeast we get the best of both worlds. We hear the best of southern music and the best of the east coast music. So being able to peer into both worlds gave me a unique perspective on hip-hop and gave me a sound of my own. As an artist my goal is to achieve balance with each cd, combining lyricism, fun, good beats, life changing songs to fill my path to becoming a complete MC.
What sets your music apart from others in your genre? The flow of the beats by extraordinary talented producers mixed with my rollercoaster flow that sounds down and speeds up but never seems to stop. I think people tend to undervalue how much weaving your way in and out of a beat with different syllables and word sounds can mean to making a track good or great. I've worked very hard to develop this flow and I will continue to work hard to make it better. I think my music sets me apart from other artists because I go out of my way to relate my concepts with everyday occurences of the average person, which in my opinion is the lifeblood of being a great artist, which is knowing your fans and never losing touch with who they are and why they like you.
What obstacles have you faced in the music industry? The most obvious obstacle I have faced in the music industry is the fact that no one from MD has cracked that code into the industry just yet, so you have to work 20 times as hard to get your music heard and played even locally. Also, dealing with promises by people that don't come true, I can't tell you how many times I thought something was finally going to be the time for me to break through or get a chance to prove myself and it just was not the case. But don't send a pity party out for me I will be ok, I truly believe that I have the talent and the drive to get my chance one day.
What steps have you taken to market your music? The first step I took was to make a trip to Los Angeles to connect with Lewis Entertainment to get some music recorded to be able to present to record labels. Since then, I have been non-stop messaging potential fans to view my music video "Race Wars", which is a collaboration with Hip Hop Artist Statik where we took a uncomfortable subject like race relations and spun it on it's head(on a sidenote "Race Wars" has received an overwhelmingly positive response from fans on youtube). I havealso tried to get into contact with record labels asking to listen to my songs and to my credit I have an A&R from Sony with a D.A.V.E demo in his hand as we speak.
If you can have any collaboration with an artist or work with any producer who would it be and why? That's a easy one for me, with no thought or equivocation it is Eminem. As an artist he showed me how you could take your emotions, feeling, experiences and fun times and make them into a song that anyone could relate too. I also enjoy a challenge, he so unbelievably talented lyrically I want to see how I would hold up on a song with a legend. I am extremely competetive and I would enjoy the chance to hold my own with an artist of his caliber.
What song are you currently promoting? Who is the producer and how did the song come about? Currently, the songs I am promoting are the songs "Race Wars" with Statik and my single "Awesome". The producer for "Race Wars" is Yung Miss based in California, and this song came about as a joke, me and my guys were sitting around listening to beats coming up with concepts and we came upon this beat that sounded like nothing we ever heard before and someone said "Im not white but my homeboy is" and Statik said "I'm not black but my homeboy is" and we decided to make a song about it, we both told each other to come up - G3 Magazine
