Bio
Dave Morrison has long been known as one of Southern Californias most engaging performing songwriters. He has been playing out sporadically for twenty years. In the early nineties, Dave released his first recording, A Flash of Green, but did little to promote it. He was busy with raising small children and working blue-collar day jobs.
During this time, many of Daves friends took to the road and made their marks in the world of contemporary Folk Music. Being stuck out in Pasadena, he did what he could to stay active creatively. What he could do was continue writing and play the occasional gig, with and without his band. During these years, he shared stages with many of the countrys best singer-songwriters: names like Richard Shindell, Ellis Paul, Martin Sexton, Darryl Purpose, Dar Williams, Bill Staines, Jack Hardy, Joel Rafael, Steve Gillette and others.
He also joined with Robert Morgan Fisher, Severin Browne, John Andrew Parks and other noted SoCal songwriters to form Buncha Damn Songwriters. This creative collective burned bright for several years. Their rollicking showcases and songwriters circles are the stuff of legend. Along the way, his songs were picked up and recorded by others, notably Chicagos acclaimed duo Small Potatoes who recorded Daves songs on their two most recent studio albums and have played them on stages all over North America.
Frustrated with LAs bloated, fame-obsessed music scene, and still wrapped up in family obligations, Dave abandoned music for a time, writing two novels and a soon-to-be-published collection of short stories. But all roads led back to his first and truest love, the good song sung truthfully.
Enter Mark Humphreys of Trough Records. Long a fan of Daves music (the feeling was mutual), Mark signed Dave to Trough and personally oversaw the recording of the new CD, A Little Farther Down the Line. After selecting fourteen songs from the bunch, and lining up some of Californias best players, the fun began in earnest. The result is an album that spans the breadth of Daves artistic sensibilitites.
