Dave Jay

Dave Jay Gerstein is a prolific songwriter/entertainer who began writing songs at age 9, imagining himself to be and wishing himself to be the 5th Monkee. Whether charming national television audiences as a “Finalist” in the Connecticut Comedy Festival on PBS, or ABC TV’s The View as their “Original Song Contest Winner”, Dave Jay still humbly made the time to be honored locally as “Special Guest Performer” in Shure Microphone’s Best Singer/Songwriter in New York Competition.

Dave Jay’s music has been licensed by MTV for their program The Osbournes, among others. In addition to writing and producing original educational songs for Ignite!Learning.com (for which an animated short is created), which are used in the classroom setting, he has also released his debut CD of children’s music, Balloon To The Moon, which is on sale at Books of Wonder, New York City’s largest independent children’s book store, where he has also performed. Recently he has been composing/producing jingles for the web sites of private businesses, personalized songs for children’s birthday parties and other occasions as well as the theme song for Chewin’ The Fat, a new syndicated program on FM radio on which Dave Jay also contributes regularly as an impressionist/character actor/comedian.

Dave Jay has been performing his original brand of upbeat, melodic, lyric-driven, jazz-tinged pop/rock, a fresh genre known as J’BLAMMO POPTM music all over the tri-state area at clubs, parties, mental facilities, hospitals, and bars. In the past several years Dave Jay has logged hundreds of performances all along the eastern seaboard, from upstate New York and New England, all over New York City to Key West, Florida, including electric, unplugged, solo and group concerts.

Dave Jay has also performed for kids of all ages in children's theater, at children's parties/events and at a number of organizations for underprivileged and physically/mentally challenged children as well as inpatient pediatric departments (for a group and/or room-to-room) at hospitals all over New York through organizations such as The Starlight Foundation, Hospital Audiences, Inc., Music That Heals, United Cerebral Palsy, Brooklyn Services For Autistic Citizens, and Musicians On Call.

Dave Jay offers a unique personalized songwriting service, in which he writes, performs records and produces a memorable, creative custom-made song as gift and/or party favor based on information provided about the subject/person whom the song is written in honor of.

Dave Jay has also been performing a new, original one man show called johnpaulgeorgeringo that he created in which he portrays unique characterizations for each of The Beatles; the entire show is improvised and interactive with the audience (including impromptu songs). Dave Jay is excited to report that it has been included as part of the 2008 New York International Fringe Festival and has also been invited to perform this show at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, England--the birthplace of The Beatles!
