Bio
this is what happens when studied pop artistry meets lyrical ingenuity. whether you're a casual listener or a music fanatic, you will find great value in the thoughtful folk pop created by daveapplegate. his art effectively captures a world of depression, hope, conflict and love.
daveapplegate's story is one of dysfunctional family, unrequited love and doubt-tinged hope. dave would often fall asleep to the sounds of his parents' fighting about a myriad of their issues. love was hard to find, and hope in finding love was hard to keep and this sensitive soul found rejection hard to deal with. the music in his father's collection was welcomed solace (the Beatles, Louis Armstrong, Pink Floyd, the Moody Blues). music became a passion early on as he sang in his school's choir and played in his school's band and orchestra. gradually, he found his own generation's voice in musicians such as Cake, Weezer, the Foo Fighters, and Ben Folds Five. as his love for music grew, his luck with love stayed the same. but conflict deepened his art - an art informed by his studies in (and deep appreciation for) literature and theology. the musicians daveapplegate identifies most with today are Death Cab for Cutie, Jimmy Eat World, David Bazan (Pedro the Lion), Elliott Smith, Bright Eyes and Derek Webb.
