There's no getting around the fact that summer's basically over, so we might as well just make like Naomi Campbell and FACE IT. Here to help you accept this awful truth is DATABOY, an Austin-based EDM duo whose mash-up of Miley Cyrus' "We Can't Stop" and Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness" makes for the perfect summer bummer jam to see the season out in style.
The aptly titled "We Can't Stop Summertime Sadness" is definitely gonna be of some comfort to us at our Labor Day Weekend house party. We hope. Sure, we'll put on a brave face as we deal with the inevitability of autumn, but TBH we'll probably just look like this GIF.
Watch DATABOY's "We Can't Stop Summertime Sadness" mash-up video.
Watch DATABOY's "We Can't Stop Summertime Sadness" mash-up video after the jump.
The Jaime Ibarra-directed clip sets the mood with a fast-paced, pulsing synth, kinda like the one in ex-Destiny's Child member LeToya's "She Ain't Got..." To this we say: GO ONNNN. As the video progresses, it alternates between party shots and scenes of singers Adam and Cameron belting their adorable hearts out in #AllBlackEverything.
Managing to capture all the tragedy, comedy, and everything in between that you'd expect from a Miley/ Lana mash-up -- well, other than a twerking babe with bee-stung lips, that is -- DATABOY's gonna be all up on our vacay playlist this weekend.

Today’s song is “Dreams Are Gold” by DATABOY. This is the title track off the Austin, TX duo’s debut album released last month. DATABOY is made up of Adam Bailey and Cameron Maxwell, two 23-year-old impresarios who have mastered the art of enmeshing seductive, Electro-pop production with exhilarating melodies and contagious lyrics. This group has some purely amazing sounds. This track is burning like the summer sun. Its infectious melodies will get stuck in your head and you won’t want to get them out.

Databoy - “Dreams are Gold”
If you missed last summers Databoy release “Just Once”, you really did miss out. That song was a perfect slice of dance pop sweetness that should have been the radio track of the summer. Well this summer they’ve just released their full album “Dreams are Gold” , and it continues that summery synth heavy theme.
Databoy’s Cameron and Adam hail from Austin Texas and describe themselves as “kids of the ’90s, born in the ’80s, inspired by the sounds of the new millennium” and “a spontaneous combustion of everything you love and love to hate about pop music”. That mix of 80s, 90s and today has given them a sound that is both familiar and unique at the same time. Full of great hooks and wry witty lyrics, you won’t be disappointed with this album at all. You can check out the entire album at AOL Music http://aol.it/LZN0Tw . It’s also available on Amazon and Itunes right now. Buy it and support these great artists and then play it for us in The POP Room. http://turntable.fm/the_pop_room - The Pop Defender

“Dreams Are Gold” is shaping up to be a mightily exciting pop effort.” - ArjanWrites.com
New York, NY (June 27, 2012) – DATABOY, a spontaneous combustion of everything you love to hate and hate to love about pop music, released their debut album DREAMS ARE GOLD, this week, following last weeks anticipated release of the eponymous single “Dreams Are Gold”, exclusively on POP CRUSH, who gave the track raving reviews, saying “The summer-y song fits into the musical landscape next to the likes Calvin Harris and Dr. Luke.”
The Austin, TX based duo, Adam Bailey & Cameron Maxwell, both 23 years old, have mastered the art of enmeshing seductive, Electro-pop production with exhilarating melodies and contagious lyrics. Put simply, DATABOY are hit-makers.
This past May, DATABOY previewed a few of the new album’s tracks on the release of their SUMMER NOW EP, a free giveaway for the duo’s rapidly growing fan base. The track “8-Ball” was praised by revered blogger ARJAN WRITES as “one of those high-grade pop confections that easily fits alongside tracks by The Wanted, One Direction, and other current chart-topping Brit pop.” He continued to note, “if this EP is any indication, “Dreams Are Gold” is shaping up to be a mightily exciting pop effort.”
DATABOY drew from a varied stable of inspirations to complete this new album, DREAMS ARE GOLD, including 80's synth-pop groups like Erasure & Pet Shop Boys, which can be heard on the album’s “Shoplift Your Love ” & “Sweat Pt. 1.” The anthemic “Just Once,” easily stands up to contemporary smashes from artists like Karmin, Kesha, & Katy Perry, while the album opener “Genius” has a Mike Posner-esque swagger.
Prior to releasing DREAMS ARE GOLD, DATABOY successfully collaborated with a number of renowned EDM producers including a collaboration with the Dutch DJ Rune R.K. on the song “Memorize Me”. The video premiered on VEVO with over 180,000 views and was also featured by worldwide-star DJ Tiesto on his Club Liferadio show. Additionally in the EDM spade, DATABOY have collaborated with Ferry Corsten, Baggi Begovich, & Audien among others. The duo is also expected to be featured on the next single by European chart-topper Kid Massive.

Even though the first time I heard them it was the latter part of Winter at the start of ’11, the Austin TX duo of Cameron and Adam, aka DATABOY, are trademarking contemporary summer sounds.
“Just Once” was MY summer jam of 2011, reaching #1 on my chart in August and ranking #4 on my year end chart. And this year it can be your summer jam too, thanks to the boys’ juicy teaser of an EP called Summer Now. It’s released in anticipation of what is certain to be a long-awaited killer of an album, Dreams Are Gold, in June, and follows on the heels of the excellent single with Rune RK, “Memorize Me”.
You won’t find “Just Once” in its original version here, but you’ll get it in the Audien Summer radio mix, plus in a clever pairing – albeit with a song that I don’t even like – Rihanna’s “You Da One”. But I like this mashup, it flows along just beautifully, sounding simple and seamless, so the duo know their craft quite well. So to the beach we go with some inviting “Lotion”, then shakin’ it like an “8-Ball” with more clever wordplay.
But best of all is one helluva big tease called “Sweat Part 1?, which modernizes the classic electro sound created by the likes of Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte with songs like Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love”, and Moroder’s own “From Here To Eternity” and “Chase”. Right now, “Sweat Part 1? clocks in at a whopping 1:38 – and surely that’s not all? I’ll gladly take parts 2, 3 and 4! ”Sweat” could end up being as classic summer DATABOY as “Just Once”.
To hear more, of course, Dreams Are Gold will be just around the corner. Can’t wait!! In the meantime, download Summer Now from the DATABOY website and listen to it on Soundcloud below. - Bill CS
Cameron Maxwell and Adam Bailey are two talented and handsome 23 year-olds from Austin, Texas who form the great new pop duo that is DATABOY. They say the concept of the band is ‘a spontaneous combustion of everything you love and love to hate about pop music. Born in the 80's, kids of the 90's, inspired by the sounds of the new millennium’. DATABOY’s electro-pop tunes feature wonderfully catchy hooks, slamming beats, and Cameron and Adam’s smooth vocals. The talented twosome work as the singers, songwriters, and producers behind their music.
The duo moved to New York a few years ago to pursue their dreams of pop music stardom, and began setting about putting together their first full-length album. Since then the guys have been putting out the odd song here and there and performed at the South by Southwest music festival in the US. They’ve also been working on several interesting collaborations; having recently they teamed up for a song and video with international selling Danish DJ/Producer Rune RK titled ‘Memorize Me.’ It’s a smooth electronic club banger that does a great job of showcasing Cameron and Adam’s vocals. The hilarious video has clocked almost 200,000 views online and features two mischievous little boys who appear to be crashing a gay pride festival.
Recently the band was asked to contribute a track to Aztec Records’ This Beat Is Poptronik project. A unique compilation album that we raved about in a review earlier this week, DATABOY provide the high-energy track ‘Stupid’. At first it sounds like a regular sleekly produced clubbing anthem, but repeated listens reveal a real grower of a track with lots of fun stuff going on in the background. In this number the boys cheekily claim they’re stupid and need to be taught if it’s ‘okay to mix Crown with Bacardi’ among cutting synth lines, bursts of hand-clapping, and various vocal effects. A great quality of DATABOY’s music is how detailed and varied the production is, without ever feeling cluttered or messy.
In anticipation of their debut album Dreams are Gold, the boys have just released a great 5-track EP titled Summer Now. They are currently offering it as a free download on their website. The EP starts off with the cheeky beach song ‘Lotion’ – all sunscreen rub-downs and frolics in the sun. Another thing we love about DATABOY is their knack for a cleverly saucy lyric. On the next track ’8-Ball’ the boys manage to turn lyrics about a magic 8-ball and a game of table pool into musical aphrodisiacs. They coyly croon ‘if you got a question all you gotta do babe, is shake it like an 8-ball … 8 in the pocket don’t knock till you rock it, 8 in the pocket can we go for the win?’ The track is an incredibly catchy synth-laced come-on.
Summer Now also features two very different remixes of DATABOYS’ great track ‘Just Once’. The ‘You Da One Remix’ brilliantly incorporates samples of Rihanna’s song of the same name. One of Rihanna’s weakest singles, ‘You Da One’ suffered from a grating repetitiveness. We’d go as far as to say DATABOY cure that track of the problem and subsequently present a stronger variation of the original.
While that first ‘Just Once’ remix is a sexy Caribbean-flavoured chat-up of a track, the second ‘Audien Summer Remix’ differs greatly and showcases the fun escapism inherent in the song’s melody and lyrics. This number provides an epic and joyous ending to the EP, over propulsive four-to-the-floor beats the boys plea ‘lets go downtown it’s the summer now, we can break-up later, it’s the summer now’. Why anyone would want to break-up with either of these lads in the first place is a mystery to us.
Elsewhere on the EP the mysteriously seductive ‘Sweat Part 1' appears. At only a minute and a half in length, this quirky little track serves as a great interlude between the two remixes. One of the things we really love about Summer Now is how it makes for such a fun and cohesive listen. EPs often play out like several random tracks thrown toge - SoSoGay UK
After I first met Databoy's Cameron and Adam at a Lights gig in Austin, Texas, the electro pop duo has embarked on an exciting musical journey that has taken them to New York to work with some of pop's finest producers to engineer a unique sound of their own. All of their hard work, patience and perseverance has resulted in their debut album, entitled "Dreams Are Gold," that will be released in a digital download store near you next month.
To give us a taste of what they have been up to in recent months, the duo is sharing the "Summer Now" EP that you can download totally guilt-free on their web site now. Pop lovers will sure be in a for a big treat with this new Databoy EP that stays true to their clearly-defined pop mantra. "We're a spontaneous combustion of everything you love and love to hate about pop music," they write on their web site. We're kids of the '90s, born in the '80s, inspired by the sounds of the new millennium. We are an unconventional duo, addicted to the art of sound and the sound of art."
The "Summer Now" EP release includes a remake of the previously shared "Just Once" that was mashed up with Rihanna's "You Da One" to give the original a breezy summer flavor. Also, featured are the pop-forward summer gem "Lotion" and the very good "8-Ball," a playful, synth-happy stomper with a mighty infectious chorus. It's one of those high-grade pop confections that easily fits alongside tracks by The Wanted, One Direction and other current chart-topping Brit pop.
The group is excited and writes me, "Our first release this year, 'Memorize Me' with Rune RK, has received over 175k hits on YouTube so far and we're hoping to build on that success with the release of a lot of original material over the next few months." The release of the LP has been long in the making, and if this EP is any indication, "Dreams Are Gold" is shaping up to be a mightily exciting pop effort. - www.ArjanWrites.com
There are scores of electro pop duos out there, but New York's DATABOY manages to rise high above the crowd. Their single, "Stupid", mixes a pounding beat with a catchy pop ditty. Cameron Maxwell and Adam Bailey, who collectively form DATABOY, are currently completing their first album. - mate. Magazine
DATABOY, ‘Dreams are Gold’ – Song Premiere

Databoy
Cameron Maxwell and Adam Bailey of Austin pop/EDM duo DATABOY have released the title track to their upcoming album ‘Dreams are Gold,’ which premieres exclusively today on PopCrush.
Maxwell and Bailey have soulful voices, and at times their work recalls some of Usher‘s recent club hits. ‘Dreams are Gold’ is a danceable song that glides along with a gentle bounce and spirited energy. The dreams in the song seem to be relationship-based, but they aren’t realized, as the guys repeat the accusation, “You’re a dream stealer” several times.
They sing, “Our future was together, and I thought it was forever / Yeah, it still could be that way / But everything that happened like a chemical reaction / Now I could never stay.” The summer-y song fits into the musical landscape next to the likes Calvin Harris and Dr. Luke.
DATABOY are currently offering a free download of their ‘Summer Now’ EP to fans who like their Facebook page. The EP features five more tracks that reflect the band’s style, which they describe as “synth-driven soundscapes, hard hitting beats, smooth vocals, and undeniable hooks define a new brand of fresh electronic pop.”
Their debut album ‘Dreams Are Gold,’ which was self-written, produced and recorded in Austin, drops June 26; the title track will be featured in the upcoming film ‘The Gay Dude,’ starring Sarah Hyland, Megan Mullally & Nick Offerman. - Pop Crush

Listen to our ten favorite upcoming releases below, including Azealia Banks, Ed Sheeran, Delilah and Estelle:
Azealia Banks: 'Bambi'
Azealia has yet to finish recording her debut album, but it feels like a week barely passes without the New Yorker revealing a new tune. Her latest cut 'Bambi' was used as part of a Muggler fashion show in Paris and features a sample of 'The Repetition Kills You' by The Black Ghosts. However, it's the heavy discotheque beats and Banks's aptitude for guessing someone's star sign that are the real highlights here. LC
Eric Turner ft. Tinie Tempah, Lupe Fiasco: 'Angels & Stars'
After being the go-to crooner for rappers in 2011, Swedish star Eric Turner has called in a favor from his pals Tinie Tempah and Lupe Fiasco for his first major solo release. Once again Turner takes on chorus duties, and given that it sounds like 'Written in the Stars' mark II, we're sure he'll have no trouble turning this into a worldwide hit. RC
New Build (Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem): 'Do You Not Feel Loved?'
LCD Soundsystem may have parted ways last year, but you'd be a fool to think that was the last we'd hear from its members. Now they have teamed up with Hot Chip to form the band New Build; and their latest cut 'Do You Not Feel Loved?' is a suitably electro affair with big thuds and wobbling synths. It's officially released on February 20. LC
Estelle: 'Thank You'
After an extended break from the UK charts, Estelle returns with 'Thank You' on March 5. An uplifting ode to her cheating ex-lover, the minimal production and soulful vocal puts us in mind of early Mary J Blige. Her third album All Of Me, is available on February 28. Watch the official music video below: RC
Moullinex & Peaches: 'Maniac'
Admittedly, when we first heard that someone, somewhere, was attempting to remake the 1983 dancefloor classic 'Maniac', we were ready to judge it with our serious music hats on. However, this modern-day take - featuring electro-pop singer Peaches - is far too much fun to go through the ball-ache of a proper appraisal. The four-track EP 'Casablanca Reworks' is out now. RC
Ed Sheeran: 'Drunk'
Leading the way with four nominations at this year's Brit Awards, Ed Sheeran is hoping to continue his streak of successful hits with 'Drunk', which is the fourth cut from his triple-platinum + album. It's a typically subtle Sheeran affair of tap-worthy hip-hop beats and trickling electric guitar riffs, and is officially released on February 27. LC
Delilah: 'Never Be Another'
The London singer's last single 'Love You So' may have fallen foul of last year's Christmas rush, but as she proves with her latest single, she's got plenty more up her sleeve for 2012. 'Never Be Another' is an infectious call out to her bad boy beau, complete with hand-claps, a dark piano riff and head-spinning chorus. RC
Santigold: 'Big Mouth'
Santigold recently revealed that the title of her second album will be Master of My Make-Believe, and judging by her latest cut, we don't doubt her for one second. 'Big Mouth' is an eclectic mix of minimalist percussion and tribal grooves and even includes a swipe at Lady GaGa. It's available as a free download from her official website. LC
Rune RK ft. Databoy: 'Memorize Me'
British readers may not recognize his name, but Rune RK is Denmark's biggest DJ and producer. Currently working with Nicki Minaj, Nervo and Kelly Rowland on forthcoming track 'Freefall', he's instead decided to lead his UK offensive with rising singer Databoy on 'Memorize Me', a hazy club number that has us longing for the summer months already. - Digital Spy

Artist: DATABOY (A.K.A. Cameron & Adam)
Song: Just Once.
Genre: Electro pop.
Status: It is their current single and it is quickly climbing to the top of my playlist.
Sounds like: Ke$ha, in steroids, having a wild affair with Gaga´s electro pop dreams while Little Boots was playing in the background.
Where to find more: Follow them on twitter @DATABOYmusic. Also, you can get Just Once for FREE! - www.madetobenow.com
Databoy's happy-go-lucky "Just Once" is one of those poptastic ditties of the guilty pleasure kind that will have you bopping along the second it hits your ear buds. I guarantee you. So who are these two Databoy dudes? The duo is the teaming of Cameron Maxwell and Adam Bailey who I first met at a Lights gig in Austin, TX at South by Southwest back in 2010.
Since then, the two friends have moved from Texas to the New York City to focus all of their efforts on writing songs and getting their music heard. Recently, they premiered a bunch of new track during my Superfraiche Pop Show in New York City alongside the happening pop of Sky Ferreira and Simon Curtis.
Just in time for the summer season, they now deliver the splashy "Just Once." The duo writes me, "We first performed this song at a pool party with just a piano and kick drum and people loved it!" The final edit of the track was mixed by legendary soundboard master/producer Tony Maserati (Beyoncé, Black Eyed Peas, Britney Spears, Jason Mraz). It is the first track taken from their forthcoming mixtape that is out in July. Get ready to completely, totally and utterly pop out "Just Once." - www.ArjanWrites.com

Databoy ~ Cameron and Adam (aka Databoy) have got it going on. You actually have to say that last sentence with some of their pop star attitude otherwise it just won't work! They have charming good looks, a vital energy that just exudes from them in interviews and performances and (perhaps most importantly) the music to back it the exterior package. Their debut single, Stupid, cannot easily be dismissed as a novelty electro tune. While lyrically it details how to make drinks, musically it's an explosive package that gallops along at a million miles an hour. It's littered with resounding beats, swirling synths and a delirious middle 8 breakdown that draws on eastern influences and has wicked fast handclaps propelling it to the final bonkers chorus run through. Listen once, catch your breath and find yourself diving back for more. Similarly Misinformation is a sizzling gem with an amazing singalong chorus that really showcases the vocal prowess going on in this group - and is accompanied by a glittering video that sees more bling than a Liberace museum :P Astonishingly good. - Fizzy Pop Music Blog

Austin-bred duo DataBoy, made up of Cameron Maxwell and Adam Bailey, have finally released their debut single. I say finally because they performed at South by Southwest last year and since then they've been buzzing among dance pop insiders - catching the ears of the likes of Kim Sozzi, Enur and producer Cutfather. "Stupid" sounds like a novelty 3Oh3 song on first listen, an electropop track with slick production asking the teacher for help with mixing drinks. However, the more you listen to it, the complexity becomes amazing. Even though there is so much going on in the frenetic production - vocal effects, hand clap breakdown, synth stabs, etc - the song isn't cluttered, it's almost filthy clean. It's perfect for radio yet with enough substance that the popjustice.com crew should be behind it. As the producers, writers and singers of "Stupid," Databoy have created one of the best debut dancepop singles of recent memory that whet our appetite for future releases. That's not stupid at all...
