Bio
Many artists struggle to discover their identity in music, laboriously trying different methods of delivery and styles, to help them define who they are as an artist. Meanwhile other artists emerge brimming with full command of their craft and musical landscape. Jason “Da Publicʼs Eye” Stanley is unyieldingly in the second category. Da Publicʼs Eye is an eccentric artist that represents the next wave of musical fusion transcending various genres, from hip-hop to funk. His latest mixtape, Secret Faneyesee, is a shining example of his ability to create music that resonates in a familiar way while showcasing his own lane of creativity as well as sets him apart as an artist.
A native of Maxton, North Carolina (just outside of Fayetteville) Da Publicʼs Eye came from a musical family. His uncle was a jazz performer and his mother was a singer but he got his real taste in music by working with his older brother, a rapper. “I wanted to impress my brother so I started free styling against older cats and getting my name and face all over. With all the attention I was getting my brother started working with me and teaching me how to perfect my style and learning the game.
Describing his sound as “flowing water that, once it touches you, it nurtures you.” He says listeners are instantly drawn to his music because it speaks to everyone, regardless of who they are. “Itʼs pure hip-hop, soul and straight funk,” he says. Da Publicʼs Eye says his musical influences are vast. “I have been influenced by so many genres of music; everyone from Curtis Mayfield and Jay-Z to Queen and 2Pac.”
Da Publicʼs Eye says his sound is well-thought out and meticulously crafted. He approaches his music like a surgeon approaching a complicated surgery -- choosing just the right tools for the job and targeting his audience with skill, wit and precision. “My style is a combination of lyrics over different beats. I feel the beat and thatʼs what drives me to be my best, to deliver what comes from the heart.”
As his name continues to grow, Da Publicʼs Eye has been featured on VH1ʼs R&B Divas, BET, TV One, Global Grind, USA Today, Eurweb, The Bronners Brothers International Hair Show and Hype Magazine to name a few. In an industry that is forever changing and looking for the next big thing, Da Publicʼs Eye continues to use his raw talent in collaboration with his self taught elements of musical production and videography to enhance his forthcoming projects. When asked about the pivotal moments or highlights of his career he respond- ed “not being able to define a pivotal moment in my career is intentional, because I feel that when you can pinpoint or have reached that point in your career there is so much room for downfall. I donʼt plan on coming down, thatʼs why I strive to reach farther and wider in anything I do.” After performing at the 2015 Bronner Brother International Hair show and rebooking the gig for the fall, there is not doubt that Da Publicʼs Eye is accomplishing that goal.
Da Publicʼs Eye says heʼs definitely looking to make moves on the music scene and beyond. “I am not looking to be the next trendy artist or a one-hit wonder,” he affirms. “My goal is longevity. My goal is to make a mark that allows me to be able to open doors for artists that Iʼm developing so that my style of music and character are respected and inspiring to other artists as well.”
