Daniela Sloan was most recently lead singer for Acoustic Rock/Soul/Funk band "Blue Sky Red" based out of Northshore Chicago. She built a solid fan bass during the course of her time with Blue Sky Red and continues to draw crowds to her home at the Underground Wonderbar. Currently, Daniela is building her media and presence in Chicago as an up and coming acoustic solo artist. Below is the most recent press release set out for Blue Sky Red by the proprietor of a popular music venue in the Northshore of Chicago that tips his hat to each artist individually.
“Blue Sky Red is a rare act that combines musical artistry with performance impact. Daniela Sloan and Garrick Aden-Buie have developed an engaging bond that belies the newness of their pairing. Yet you can’t say that Blue Sky Red is greater than the sum of its parts, because individually, each of Daniela and Garrick are wildly talented. Their collective songwriting adds nuance and introspection into their shows, without skipping a beat from their soulful, yet swinging repertoire of well-selected interpretations. Always a show, always making new fans, Blue Sky Red leaves the audience not just impressed with their talents, but enlivened and uplifted from the experience. ”

People around town may have seen her play in area venues like The Latitude Lounge at The Noodle Bar, the gazebo, during summer music season, and Community Church services. However, the last two years, she and her acoustic guitar have become a regular fixture in the city as well, spreading her own personal brand of music she calls original Acoustic Soul. She's opened for the worldwide touring band Fink, she's a resident musician at one of Chicago's top blues/ jazz venues, The Underground Wonderbar, and she's contributed music to a number of films from Chicago production companies. Her original songs are infused with a unique energy all her own, jumping back and forth between rhythm-infused melodic poetry that has you bobbing your head to impassioned heartfelt ballads she croons with chanteuse confidence.
"As a musician there comes a point when you need to buckle down and produce something tangible for people to have, hold, and hopefully love," says Daniela. "I decided to record my debut album this year because, after years of writing, refining, and learning plenty of lessons along the way, I feel my original Acoustic Soul is now ready to be shared."
With all of the music recording equipment available at a consumer level today, it's easy to say that you're going to record an album. Making it great, however, is a different story. Daniela knew that in order to distinguish herself and her distinctive sound from everyone else, she had to record in a professional environment. But professional environments come at a price, and Daniela spends her nights and weekends as a singer/songwriter and her days as an elementary school teacher; she doesn't exactly have money to throw around. With a date to record at Chicago's Raxtrax Studios in March, Daniela turned to an ever more popular source of raising funds for expensive projects, crowdsourcing. The website Indiegogo allows artists to set up a page where supporters can donate money to their cause at various levels and they receive a donation gift based on the size of their donation. Someone who donates $15 would get a digital download of Daniela's album, someone donating $25 would get a hardcopy of the finished CD. She even has prize levels that include an invitation to the CD release party or a private concert for donors and their friends.
"I chose IndieGoGo as a platform to raise money for creating this album because it is as an incredible crowd-funding platform for musicians and anyone dedicated to fresh creative work," says Daniela. "So far, it has served me well and we have reached 53 percent of the $5,000 goal. I feel confident we can reach the goal in the next 22 days of the campaign and I thank anyone who reads this blog and feels they would like take part in the campaign, or just decides to share my original Acoustic Soul."
With three weeks left in the campaign, Daniela has reason to be optimistic about reaching her goal. Anyone who watches her campaign video on Indiegogo and hears her music is going to want to be involved. This is a case of not only being able to say you knew her when, it's a chance to say you helped her make it.
