"Purevolume: Song of the Day: D&M's "The Sound of Breaking My Heart""

Philadelphia-based D&M are a band you'll want to know. With their alt-pop sound, piano-driven instrumentation, and slight blues feel, they offer a little something for everyone, and do so in a way that still feels original. Their new single, "The Sound of Breaking My Heart," makes heartbreak sound pretty and -- dare we say it -- almost empowering. The song comes from their upcoming EP, Wait for Me, slated for an April 24 release, and you can view the full tracklisting over at CMJ. - Purevolume.com

"CMJ: D&M Shares its "Heartbreak" Sounds"

Since meeting on the first day of college in the fall of 2009, the members of alt-pop band D & M have made significant steps for musicians with an average age of 21. There are the two EPs, the tour that was funded by fans on Kickstarter and the fact that the band has opened for Yoko Ono and N.E.R.D. The Philly quartet will continue the momentum by releasing a new EP on April 24 titled Wait For Me. Today CMJ has an exclusive premiere of a track off of Wait For Me called “The Sound Of Breaking My Heart.”

“The Sound Of Breaking My Heart” is a piano-driven blend of pop and rock that draws from the likes of Mumford And Sons and Fun. Heartbreak noise never felt so good. - CMJ

"Purevolume Song of the Day- "The South of France" by D&M"

D & M's new song, "The South of France," is one of those breezy songs that will stir your inner wanderlust, and have you dreaming of far off places. Quiet acoustics and soft harmonies grow to growling vocals, electric guitar riffs, and sparkling percussion, just to scale back down as though caught up in a thought. And maybe it's this transition between loud and soft, explosive and meditative, that gives this song such a solid grip on the heart. Grab it as a limited-time free download, and be on the lookout for the band's forthcoming new album, Wait For Me, due April 24. - Purevolume.com

"Tips from the Road Warriors - D&M"

1. Bring a GPS- first and most important. Gotta know how to get from city to city.
2. Lots of water- might cause for more pee stops, but staying hydrated is extremely important. Especially when you're sweating and drinking beer all night.
3. Try to get paid- as silly as this sounds, newer bands often have trouble getting paid at a gig, especially when they're playing a town they have never stepped foot in! Make sure to advance the show a week before and confirm you're getting some sort of compensation. If not be sure to be extra friendly at the merch table! Gas is expensive...
4. Deodorant- seems so obvious, but a serious must. Tours don't give many opportunities to shower, and while deodorant is no substitute for bathing, it definitely helps.
5. Look at it as a road trip- A road trip where instead of just traveling, you get to play rock shows every night and meet amazing people. Looking at the tour as a road trip or vacation can help your mood those nights you only make a few bucks, or when there are only a couple people at the back of the bar watching you play. On a road trip you make no money, and no one comes to hear songs by you, so it really makes everything on tour seem better! - Digital Tour Bus

"D&M "The Sound of Breaking My Heart"- MP3 of the Day"

A soulful mix of pop, blues and rock n’ roll, D&M are an exciting new band in the vein of artists like John Mayer and Mumford & Sons. Their new album, Wait For Me - and in particular the lead track “The Sound of Breaking My Heart” – sees the group taking their sound to the next level.

One of the key features of D&M is the voice of lead singer and primary songwriter Danny Fornaza. His wide range and expressive tone gives his songs emotional weight that draws the listener in. Lead guitarist Matt Klahre spices up the track with great riffs that mix the flair of old school blues with the hooky style of modern day pop. The rhythm section of Matthew Jurasek on bass and Sean Donaghy on drums keeps everyone locked tight in a solid groove that provides the foundation to their powerful sound. - MP3.com

"I-Spy: D & M- kkbbezine.com"

The blues-infused Alternative Pop band known as D & M just released their new EP, “Wait for Me,” April 24th. It is produced by Brandon Bost and draws from the likes of John Mayer, Mumford & Sons and Fun. Their mix of Pop, Blues, and Rock ‘n’ Roll has something for all music lovers. - Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

"Recent and Recommended for May: Wait For Me"

For a band barely three years young, Philadelphia’s D&M has emerged from the gate so fully formed musically it’s actually a little breathtaking. Billed as a mash-up of John Mayer, fun. and Mumford & Sons, the description is accurate but also sells the group a little short — D&M rocks harder than any of those acts, owing in no small part to Matt Klahre’s scorching guitar parts.

The crescendo Klahre provides on “Philadelphia” is spot on, and “The Working Title” juxtaposes his blues-infused guitar licks with driving horns and frontman Danny Fornasa’s biting vocals for the EP’s rockingest track. The slow-building “South of France,” meanwhile, brings a compelling indie rock vibe along with its churning pop harmonies.
The group still has some work to do lyrically: For a song about finding new love for the titular city thanks to a girl he met there, “Philadelphia” should definitely be taking itself a little less seriously. And “The Sound of Breaking My Heart” carries with it at least a few of the lyrical tropes you’d expect from a song with that title.
But the group makes up for it on the EP’s standout title track, “Wait For Me.” Soulful horns carry Fornasa’s vocals about an imperfect relationship in a way that seems recognizably heartfelt rather than clichéd: When he declares, “You’re the love of my life and I plan on living pretty long,” he makes you hope he will. - Patriot Ledger

"U&U Review:: Delawanna EP - D & M"

On the standout title track of D&M’s new EP Delawanna lead vocalist Danny Fornasa sings “I don’t own a fancy home/And lately all I fells alone/ Believe me when I say I’m going to be something some day” amidst a building piano ballad. That honesty transceneds throughout the release in the very best of ways. Ranging from cold fire acoustic based tracks like “Just To Be With You” to full on rock numbers like”I Wish You Were Here” D&M prove that they are far from a one trick pony. It’s that ever changing ability that makes the band unique and worth positive praise. The five tracks are just one of many signs that the up and coming band are just getting started and on a very promising road. - Unsigned & Unleashed

D & M is an alternative pop band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that formed in 2009 when members Danny Fornasa, Miles Mueller, and Matt Klahre met at Drexel University. They began touring soon after and by the Spring of 2010 were opening for national acts such as Yoko Ono, N.E.R.D., and Kevin Rudolph. Their music is described as "Passionate songs that range from acoustic sensitivity to outbursts of rock and roll that grab your ear and stay in your brain for days to come." In 2010, the band self-released their first recording entitled "The Eyepatch EP" which was recorded at MADDragon Studios during two all-night recording sessions on a zero dollar budget. The six-song EP is currently available at all of the band's live shows, their website, and on iTunes. In support of this release, the band embarked on an ambitious 16- date Winter Tour which kicked off in Philadelphia and went through the east coast in just two and half weeks.

Just after returning they set their sights even higher and teamed up with kickstarter.com to start a fan fundraising project for a national summer tour. The "Every State of the Union Tour" was born and will bring D & M across the country on a national tour funded entirely by their fans, without the aid of a major label. This national tour will support their forthcoming EP "Delawanna" which will be released Summer 2011, and includes the music video for title track single: "Delawanna".

D & M's sound draws influences from current artists such as Damien Rice, Coldplay, and John Mayer. Danny Fornasa is the group's lead vocalist, acoustic guitar player, and main songwriter. His expansive vocal range allows the group to write dynamic songs that keep the listener enticed track after track. Miles Mueller provides the percussion and essential background vocals that make the hooks of each song even more unforgettable. Matt Klahre is the lead guitarist who returns the group's modern pop stylings to their blues roots with melodic guitar lines and searing blues solos. D & M's initial success has only encouraged them to continue working diligently to further spread their music to all audiences.

This is D & M. Listen. Enjoy. Listen again. Love.

Tune in again!!

"D & M Band on the Rise"

Richmond - One of my favorite things about Richmond is the fact that there is always music to be heard, and there are an abundance of venues, big and small, that you can go to on any given night and check out some live music. One such place is called the Triple, which is located on Broad Street just down the road from the VCU area. Although the central focus of the venue is the multitude of regulation size pool tables, there is also a small stage area that is located right next to the bar with an open area perfect for people that come to a show to dance. On June 18, I ventured into the Triple for the first time to check out a band called D & M that had made the trek all the way from Philly that afternoon to play their first gig in the River City. When I walked through the door for the first time, I had to take a look around to make sure I was in the right place. The simplicity of the set up on this particular night took a little bit of getting used to. It wasn’t until the band started playing that I realized just how perfect the entire set up was. D & M is one of those bands whose members are incredibly talented on their respective instruments, and on this particular night they proved that they could roll along with whatever was thrown their way while still putting on a really good show.
D & M is comprised of three young guys that are all enrolled at Drexel University. Danny Fornasa, Miles Mueller and Matt Klahre came together in 2009 to form the band and immediately hit the road to begin touring. Before long they were opening for nationally known acts like N.E.R.D. and Kevin Rudolph, and in the 2010 they released a six-song EP called The Eyepatch EP. They then spent the winter of 2010 touring to promote all of the hard work they had been doing. The three are currently in the middle of their latest tour, which is a national effort to promote their newest EP Delawanna that is set to be released at the end of June. The current tour takes them from the East Coast to the West Coast, with several stops in between. Before their set at the Triple, I picked up a pool cue and spent a while talking with the trio about everything from their musical tastes to what they were most looking forward to while touring. All three have their own individual musical influences, from John Mayer to Damien Rice, but all agreed that they were really looking forward to taking their music to the ears of the people on the West Coast. Touring through California and playing some of those famous venues out there is a big dream for a lot of bands, and D & M seemed both eager and humbled by the opportunity that has presented itself.
I began to look at my watch when I felt like it was close to the time the band was supposed to take the stage and started to wonder why they hadn’t started getting set up. My question was answered pretty quickly when the band took the stage, plugged in their cords and were ready to get the show going. I am pretty used to going to shows that have big productions that go along with the actual music, but this wasn’t going to be one of those shows, and I soon realized how perfect this was, especially with the backdrop of the Triple. Danny Fornasa provides the rhythm and the lead vocals while playing an acoustic guitar, Matt Klahre is an absolute machine on the lead guitar, and Miles Mueller plays the Djembe in the live setting with the perfect amount of power and precision. Their show isn’t about flashy lights; it’s about really talented musicians playing great music that the people in the crowd can relate to. The three members of D & M genuinely looked like they were having a great time on stage. It didn’t seem to bother them that the place wasn’t packed, and when Fornasa broke a string during the third song of their set he showed just how talented of a musician he is by picking up a random electric guitar from another band that was schedule to perform later and playing it the rest of the night like there was nothing to it. It is these types of moments that really define just how strong a band is going to be. He could have stopped the show and taken 10 or 15 minutes to change the string and tune, but he decided to just go with the flow and see what happened, and the end result was pretty incredible to listen to.
The night was a mixture of new songs from their upcoming EP, including “I Wish you Were Here” and “Philadelphia”, along with some cover songs that seemed to really grab the attention of the audience. The original songs off the album are extremely well wri tten with lyrics that seem to pour out of the heart of Danny Fornasa, while containing sections that allow for Matt Klahre to show off his incredible talents on the electric guitar. I spent much of the night watching him play and was blown away by how good he is with his instrument. Another standout was the Djembe playing of Miles Mueller, the perfect complement to this music in a live setting. When you listen to the album Mueller plays the full set of drums, but the Djembe almost seems faultless for their style of music when you see them in person. Having heard each of the songs with the full drum kit and just the Djembe, I can honestly say I am a fan of both styles, and can only hope that during their current tour Miles gets the opportunity to break out the kit and really get down to business.
My honest opinion of D & M is that they are only at the beginning of what is going to be a long and prosperous journey. I was blown away by how approachable the three of them were, and they truly seemed to enjoy everything that was going on around them. Delawanna is an excellent album that shows the full range of each individual member and can be played with no need to skip tracks. Their live shows are both entertaining and spirited, and even when things didn’t go exactly as planned, they never seemed to get down or make excuses. You could tell that all they wanted to do was play their music and make people dance. The songs are interactive, and the lyrics stick with you long after their set is over. The trio is also very committed to their music careers, and even as they left the stage they were already making plans for the five-hour drive back to Philly so they practice before the next stop on their tour. D & M is a band well on their way to making a big name for themselves. If you haven’t heard of them yet, please make sure that you don’t wait much longer to check them out. Pick up a copy of Delawanna, and I promise that you will be a fan before the first song is finished playing.
You can check out the band on their website at WeAreDAndM.com or on Facebook and MySpace. And by the way, if you are wondering what D & M stands for, check out the new EP for your answer. - Magazine 33

1. David Ryan Harris – “If I Had a Dime”
Danny Fornasa Says: “Matt and I recently saw him put on an amazing show at the Highline Ballroom in New York – the whole world should be listening to this guy, it’s amazing he’s not as famous as Prince yet. He’s a real down-to-earth guy, but his mixture of pop, rock, and R&B is out of this world.” (HEAR IT HERE)

2. River City Extension – “Our New Intelligence”
Matt Klahre Says: “River City’s eight piece orchestration really brings the energy of a live show to their recordings. This song is a perfect example of that, it feels like they’re playing right next to you.”

3. Miniature Tigers – “Bullfighter Jacket”Miles Mueller Says: “I first heard about Miniature Tigers my freshman year of college, and after listening to their first album, I couldn’t get their songs out of my head. Their second album was more experimental and brought the band to new heights. I saw them play with Freelance Whales in Philly, and met the guys. They’re all awesome and it was a night I’ll never forget.”

4. fun. – “Light A Roman Candle With Me”
Danny Fornasa Says: “fun.’s songs are usually pretty epic, but this one is more mellow, and a real complement to their first record. I’ve been a fan of The Format, and couldn’t be happier with Nate’s next musical endeavor.”

5. Death Cab for Cutie – “You Are a Tourist”
Danny Fornasa Says: “Death Cab was my favorite band in high school, and just recently started listening again. Their new album is ridiculous. Their new live music video was outstanding, and an innovative accomplishment that upcoming artists should try to match. They’ve been a band for a while now, and they’re still making hits!”

6. Bob Reynolds – “Creep”
Matt Klahre Says: “Everyone’s heard and covered Radiohead’s “Creep” (including us), but no one has ever done it quite like this. Bob’s rendition is in 7/8 time and takes the song to a new level. Bob’s famous for being John Mayer’s touring sax player, but he is a jazz genius and can play circles around anyone. In any genre.”(HEAR IT HERE)

7. Kanye West – “All of the Lights”
Miles Mueller Says: “He just reinvented hip-hop, rap, and pop music in general with that last album.”

8. Adele – “Rolling in the Deep”
Danny Fornasa Says: “The whole album [21] is amazing, and this sing is everything a single should be. I would love to sing a duet with her, but I’d be too scared she would wreck my day (laughs aloud).”

9. Damien Rice – “Woman Like a Man”
Danny Fornasa Says: “This is a B-side by my favorite artist Damien Rice. He goes all out, and the energy is just insane. Still waiting for him to make another album, he’s a huge inspiration.” (HEAR IT HERE)

10. John Mayer – “Who Did You Think I was”
Matt Klahre Says: “Anyone who thinks John is just an acoustic pop singer needs to go listen to this. It makes me want to do two things: Get in a fight, and practice guitar [laughs].”

"Song of the Day: "Delawanna" by D & M"

Today’s song is “Delawanna” by D & M. This is the title track off the band’s highly anticipated EP which will be released on June 28th. Consisting of Danny Fornasa (lead vocals/guitar), Miles Mueller (percussion/b.g. vocals), and Matt Klahre (lead guitar), D & M was formed in 2009 at Drexel University in Philadelphia. The band has an intriguing sound reminiscent of Damien Rice, John Mayer, and Mumford & Sons.
D & M is currently on tour (see dates below) in support of the EP and will be having a record release show next Tuesday, the 28th at NYC’s Mercury lounge. The “Every State of the Union Tour” is funded entirely by their fans. “We’re proud of what we recorded with Delawanna. We’ve moved beyond our influences and the sounds of our peers and defined D & M’s musical sound,” says Fornasa.
Listen and for more information on D & M check out their official website.

"D & M: Delawanna EP Review"

First Impressions:
1) A piano chord and the singer start this album off calmly. His voice is a little rough, but provides a nice, soulful feel to it. “I don’t own a fancy car” is the first phrase heard, and it comes back with the theme in the second verse: “I don’t own a fancy home.” This is definitely a song of reflection, looking into the mirror while trying to gaze into the future. It fits into the Keane, Fray, or Train genre of piano rock. “I can rewrite destiny” is repeated a few times in the song as the lyrics in the chorus reprise. The end of the song is triumphant, perhaps a little too much energy for a first song.
2) This tune starts off with a ballad-esque intro, reminds me of “One of These Things” by Nick Drake, which was featured on Garden State’s soundtrack. This song reveals a gentler voice from the singer, not quite as gritty. They seem to tell a story with their songs, somewhat literal, tangible images arise. The end features an interesting evolution of the song; I wish the guitar were louder in that section, because it sounded Chili Pepper-y. “I’d do anything for you” is repeated in the chorus.
3) An introduction that is as intimate as the first commences this song. The vocalist and an acoustic guitar are all that’s heard until the drums, bass, and back-up singers kick. It’s a nice pick up from the beginning. I was a bit lost towards the end of this piece, not going to lie. Then it just ended.
4) Acoustic and vocals also start this one, but with electric guitar thrown to the mix. This is a bluesy tune, the electric guitar bemoans with the vocalist, but the drums and song pick up to harder moments than blues usually displays. There is a cool break down featuring the electric lead, and it dissipates back to the intro’s style. The song gains a lot of vigor towards the end and rocks out until the last note is heard.
5) The breaks are hit yet again as a smooth organ and guitar linger over a steady drumbeat. Vocals come in later than usual in this, and the same tempo is maintained. I’m going to guess that this song will stay at this level till the end, as a means of winding down and tying off the five-song EP. Two guitars harmonize towards the end and an organ is heard pumping chords as it fades out to silence.
The Breakdown:
This three-man band from Pennsylvania has been molding their craft for the past two years after getting acquainted with one another at Drexel University. “Delawanna,” which is their second EP serves as evidence for the persistence and dedication these gentlemen have towards creating music and more importantly their collective efforts. Aside from being a means of boosting financials, it allows a broader spectrum of individuals to introduce themselves to their sound and appreciate the blend they have concocted upon over the past two voyages round the sun.
D & M’s recordings are extremely professional and enable a listener to pick out the characteristics that make this band tick. Unfortunately, some of the mixing doesn’t allow the full sound to be appreciated. For example, in the second track (“Just to Be with You”) there is a distinct guitar that comes in during one of the choruses and it would be awesome if it could come out a bit more. Now, I realize this is a fractional segment of the entire album, but it’s something that arises a few times throughout. When one or two instruments accompany the lead singer everything is clear and serene, but when all of the layers combine during the choruses there is a bit of lost sound that distracts/ blurs the true colors that need to shine.

It is something that could be tweaked and fine tuned for months, and I realize that; recording is a tough process and harnessing the fervent sounds is quite the challenge. Despite this observation, I enjoyed listening to the album. They do have contrasting elements and moments even within the brief 20 minutes of “Delawanna”. I appreciate that a lot, it is always enjoyable to hear a band toy around with various emotions and timbres. D & M has effectively juxtaposed the warm, inviting piano/ guitar with vocals to moments of voluminous, ardent rock. It’s impressive when only three members achieve that sort of depth. I believe this is a strength that could be expanded upon for future endeavors of songwriting.
The vocalist, Danny Fornasa, has a unique voice. It’s calm and gentle, but has a rasp to it that is complimentary to the overall style. I personally enjoy it most when there is less around the voice, but it also sounds nice when backed by the entire ensemble. I also really liked the scattered guitar solos that appeared in a few songs. I would say it leans towards a bluesy vibe, and it augments the uniqueness of D & M. They have created a healthy mix of Train, Nick Drake, and Keane. Only time will allow them to further discover and evolve their sound; releasing EPs, such as “Delawanna” will serve as stepping stones and a catalyst to the future frequencies that await.
They will be going on tour starting June 28 to celebrate this accomplishment. Check out the dates at:

"One To Watch: D & M"

It was a wet and windy Wednesday evening in New York, you know, the dampening of spirits kind. I doubt there was a better place to seek respite from the miserable conditions that the city was subjecting us to than inside Arlene’s Grocery, where D & M were brightening up the dreary evening with their quirky, upbeat set that spoke of sailboats in the sun and whimsical ideas of running away to the South of France.
D & M are a delightful tripod of blues infused alternative pop who make music that gives you a warm, gooey, glow in the pit of your stomach. The band treated attendees of the small underground venue to an acoustic set on June 8, commencing with ‘I Wish You Were Here’, a catchy track that presses your must-sing-along-to buttons. Lyrics such as “I can’t kiss you through a postcard” were absolutely adorable, but it was their track ‘The South Of France’ that was the proverbial panty dropper with, “I want to kiss you nice and slow/ My hands know just where to go”. Yikes! Responsible for the lyrics that would make even the most cynical of people believe in die-hard romance was Danny Fornasa – who also happens to be an impressive vocalist that could give David Gray or Damien Rice a run for their money.
Speaking after the show, D & M told us how their track ‘Philadelphia’ came about, with vocalist and guitarist, Fornasa, commenting, “The lyrics are ‘I fell in love in Philadelphia’ because I went to Philadelphia and fell in love”. He comically added, “But we love every city in all of America. We love America!”
Although hailing from New Jersey where he went to school with drummer Miles Mueller, they met guitarist Matt Klahre at Drexel University in Philadelphia where they are currently based, “Me and Miles had a band in high school. We moved to college and we wanted to start it again, but make it better.” In 2009, D & M were formed and they describe their sound as, “Harder than singer-songwriters but lighter than rock”, which is absolutely on target, but fails to specify just how great they are at performing this happy medium live.
Their current tour was funded by a successful Kickstarter appeal that got them out on the road, “We wanted to do a more expansive summer tour, so we figured the best way to do it would be to fund-raise.” Their initial plans were far more ambitious with Danny adding, “We ended our mini tour and we decided we wanted to do a huge tour in the summer, like every single state in America. We thought about it for a minute and then decided that would never happen.”
Alas, they succeeded in getting out on the road and New York was the starting pulpit on their mission to spread their melodic word. The choice of arrangement and instruments at the performance were of distinct contrast to that used on their recorded EP, with Miles playing a Djembe instead of a full drum kit. The African drum effectively represented the percussion section like a rhythmic, subtle heartbeat, whilst Matt remained with the electric guitar that complimented this with a series of well placed, eloquent solos. Front-man Danny sported an acoustic guitar and it was the pinnacle of the band’s performance when he stepped back from the microphone and belted out an acapella rendition that was responsible for many a chill-bump that ran throughout the crowd.
Previews from their upcoming EP to be released on June 28 sounded excitingly promising and they are looking set to produce even more musical goodness in the future, with Matt adding, “What drives us is the quality of our music, we want to make the best album ever”. The title track of the upcoming record, Delawanna, has a quality that by far surpasses their years. The recorded version especially captures this and it features a raw tinge that Brit favorites Oasis used to be known to produce in tracks such as ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’. Any attempt to further compartmentalize D & M’s caliber to their wizened contemporaries would not do this band justice, whilst their current recording does not adequately capture their live presence. They really are a band you must see in person.
D & M are sweet of temperament and romantic of nature, both musically and personally. Their predilection for making music is positively infectious with them commenting, “You feel like if you write a song you just want everyone else in the world to hear it”. Miles concluding with, “I just want to be one of those rock stars on the cover of Rolling Stones magazine. “ Their enthusiasm and talent will surely see to this. Watch this space.

"Drexel band D & M preps for tour"

D & M is an alternative pop band based here in Philadelphia, Pa. The band is comprised solely of Drexel students: lead vocalist and guitarist Danny Fornasa, drummer Miles Mueller and guitarist Matt Klahre.

You may have seen D & M performing around campus, opening for such events as N.E.R.D and Kevin Rudolph at the Spring Jam or at the opening of the "Ni Una Mas" exhibit at the Leonard Pearlstein Gallery, among many other Drexel events. This band has also played at popular Philadelphia venues such as World Café Live, The Trocadero Theatre and The M Room.

D & M is gearing up for their summer tour, which they cleverly named "D & M - Every State of the Union (Or At Least The 13 Original Colonies) Summer Tour 2011." The band wanted to tour the country and hit every state, but soon realized that wasn't feasible at this time.

"We knew we could definitely do the East Coast then try to go to the Midwest and just tour the country. We're very excited," Fornasa said. DraKo Booking Agency, MADDragon's student-run booking agency that works with bands signed to the MADDragon label, will be booking the dates for D & M's summer tour.

"The tour is going to take up our entire summer," Forrnasa said. Planning to book 100 shows, the group realized how quickly expenses would add up, and soon settled upon a unique way of raising funds for their summer tour.

Utilizing the online fundraising company Kickstarter, who consider themselves to be "the largest funding platform for creative projects in the world," D & M created an online fundraising page. Through this site, the band can offer donors exclusive D & M gear ranging in price from $1 to $300, and when fans pledge particular dollar amounts, they receive gifts such as signed shirts, CDs, watches and even an exclusive house party show. As a pledge, the money is only donated if and when D & M reaches their goal of $1000 in a certain amount of time.

This isn't D & M's first tour - they recently returned from their winter tour over break, which included 14 dates and spanned venues throughout Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.

"When you go and play 20 dates in 20 days, all self booked, and you do that day after day … you find out a lot about yourselves as a band," Fornasa said.

How did D & M become what they are today? Fornasa and Mueller have known each other since the first grade. As for Klahre, he met Fornasa at Drexel's student orientation, and they found a mutual interest in guitar when they took part in an icebreaker activity. It was a couple weeks into the first term when Fornasa invited Klahre to his dorm room in Kelly Hall to "jam."

"We played, and he was awesome," Fornasa said. Mueller, who shared a room with Fornasa in Kelly, played drums, and the two had wanted to start a band for some time.

"One thing led to another, and we are just making hits," Fornasa said.

All sophomores here at Drexel, Fornasa is in the music industry program; Mueller is a student in the film and video program and Klahre is an entertainment and arts management major.

"I feel like all our majors work together," Mueller said. Being able to perform at many events on campus has gained the band a level of notoriety. As for D & M's fans, Klahre said the fan base is mostly comprised of Drexel students.

Along with D & M's debut EP, entitled "The Eyepatch EP," the band has just released a new single called "I Wish You Were Here," recorded with music industry major Brandon Bost.

"Former Compadres members release new EP"

It is hard to believe that just two years ago Danny Fornasa and Miles Mueller were sitting in classrooms at Nutley High School. Formally part of the band The Compadres, with fellow NHS graduates Anthony Codo-mo and Christian Francisco, Fornasa and Mueller have teamed up with Matt Klahre to form their new band D & M. All three musicians are sophomores at Drexel Univer-sity. The band has recently released its new album titled The Eyepatch EP on November 13.

We wrote most of the songs on The Eyepatch EP dur-ing the 2009-10 school year, our freshman year at Drexel University. After recording the songs at MADDragon Studios in Philadelphia, they were sent to Justin Hahn in Florida for mixing and mastering,” Fornasa said.

The record contains the band’s first single, “The Eye-patch Song”, which was previously only available via digital download. “The Eyepatch EP” however, will be available in CD format at all D&M shows and through CDBaby.com. To help support the new release, the band will be embarking on a 14 day regional tour, beginning in Philadelphia, PA and continuing into five states and eight cities, including one in Nutley at the Modern Leaf & Bean on December 20.
Many people helped to make this record possible for D & M. According to D & M’s press release, “In addition to enlisting adept recording engineer Justin Hahn, photog-rapher Ryan Shtainhorn provided the band with dynamic new photos around which the EP’s artwork is centered.”

Each band member brings something special to the table. Danny Fornasa is the group’s lead vocalist, acous-tic guitar player and main songwriter, Mueller provides the percussion and essential background vocals and Matt Klahre is the lead guitarist who, according to the press re-lease, “returns the group’s modern pop stylings to their blues roots.” Fornasa said, “We get inspiration for songs through various things in life. For example, the song ‘Philadelphia’ is about falling in love with a new place and starting a new chapter in your life. Other songs like ‘Won’t Let You Go’ are about relationships and love. Anything that inspires us could end up in a song!”

In some ways, D & M started even before Fornasa and Mueller met Klahre. Fornasa said, “Our first original song with D & M was a tune on our demo called “The Sight of Sea.” It’s a song I wrote my junior year of high school that we finally recorded at Miles’s house the summer before college began (2009). That was when we really started to form what D & M is today.”

D & M went from recording in Mueller’s house to hav-ing its own album. Today they are performing with pop-ular artists such as Kevin Rudolph and N.E.R.D. whose songs include “Let it Rock” and “I Made It.” Fornasa said, “It was awesome performing with Kevin Rudolph and N.E.R.D! We actually hung out with Kevin backstage for a while before the show and he was a really cool guy!”

Fornasa and Mueller have travelled quite a distance since graduating from NHS. Coming together with Klahre at Drexel has only increased their success. Sophomore and fan Kristen Lawler said, “ I really like how personal it is for us as students from Nutley. It makesa me feel as though I’m part of the band because I knew them before and now I know them after. It’s kind of amazing.”

Fornasa always knew that he was destined for a career in music: “Even as a NHS student, my main goal was to write music and [we] hoped to one day put out a CD and tour all over. Now it’s finally starting to happen! So, to any student at NHS now that has a dream, go out and do it! Hard work pays off.” For more information on D & M, become a fan on Facebook, or watch videos at www.youtube.com/user/dandmband.

"D & M at Midtown Scholar"

D&M AT MIDTOWN SCHOLAR
A performance at Midtown Scholar also will serve as a homecoming for one of the members of Philadelphia-based band D&M. Hershey-area native and Bishop McDevitt graduate Matt Klahre, the band’s guitarist, returns to the area with Danny Fornasa on vocals and guitar and Miles Mueller on percussion and background vocals.

The three met at Drexel University, where they are all full-time students.

“We are currently pursing music to our fullest potential and are very satisfied with the success we have been having,” Klahre said. “While we enjoy our fields of study at Drexel, performing music is our ultimate goal.”

D&M’s new release, “The Eyepatch EP,” features newly mixed versions of songs from its first EP, which sold out quickly.

The band began working with Middletown recording engineer Justin Hahn, who reworked and remixed their previously recorded material.

“‘The Eyepatch EP’ brings our songs to a whole new level, and we are very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Hahn,” Klahre said.

"For a band barely three years young, Philadelphia’s D&M has emerged from the gate so fully formed musically it’s actually a little breathtaking."- GateHouse News

D & M is a "blues infused alternative pop" band based out of Philadelphia, (think Gary Clark Jr. meets Fun.) After meeting in the fall of 2009, lead singer Danny Fornasa and Matt Klahre decided to form an band, mixing their shared love of pop, blues, and rock and roll. They dubbed the band D & M. It wasn’t the most shocking name, or the most eccentric on their list, but “D & M” told the world who they were in the most honest of ways and let the music take the focus. That it did.

After playing regionally throughout 2010 they went into the studio to record “Delawanna”, a five song EP. It was released on June 23rd and was featured on such notable outlets as AOL Music, Relix, AbsolutePunk, and many more. To support the release D & M teamed up with kickstarter.com to fan-fundraise for a national summer tour. This fan-funding project took them from coast to coast all summer, playing concerts in big cities, small cities, and even “Good Morning San Diego”.

To follow up "Delawanna" D & M released their newest record, "Wait For Me" on April 24, 2012 to critical acclaim. Recorded in Philadelphia, the band stayed true to their roots, but expanded their sound with help from producer Brandon Bost. It has garnered the attention of national media with favorable reviews featured on CMJ, AOL Spinner, Purevolume, MP3.com, and many more. The band supported "Wait For Me" with an expansive 7-week national tour bringing their memorable live show to eager fans around the country.

D & M’s sound draws influences from current artists such as John Mayer and Fun., and icons like The Band and The Beatles. Danny Fornasa is the group’s lead vocalist, acoustic guitar player, and main songwriter. His expansive vocal range allows the group to write dynamic songs that keep the listener enticed track after track. Matt Klahre, the lead guitarist, returns the group’s modern pop stylings to their blues roots with melodic guitar lines and searing rock & roll solos.

"D & M are just about ready to transform from relative unknown to household name."- MOG Music Network

"Philadelphia-based D&M are a band you'll want to know. With their alt-pop sound, and slight blues feel they offer a little something for everyone, and do so in a way that still feels original."- Purevolume.com

"Delawanna, has a quality that by far surpasses their years... It features a raw tinge that Brit favorites Oasis used to be known to produce... Any attempt to further compartmentalize D & M’s caliber to their wizened contemporaries would not do this band justice... They really are a band you must see in person."- Poptimes Magazine

"Billed as a mash-up of John Mayer, fun. and Mumford & Sons, the description is accurate but also sells the group a little short, D&M rocks harder than any of those acts."- GateHouse News

This is D & M. Listen, enjoy. Listen again, love.
