DAD

DAD was founded in 2008 but saw many incarnations before the one we see today. The membership of DAD first solidified as a four-piece in 2009 and developed a sound that could best be described as jazz-influenced post-rock with spoken word vocals. This version of DAD lasted for the better part of the year before the group found itself wanting to move in a different direction. Influenced by the great musicianship of Gang of Four, Grizzly Bear, Sigur Ros, and others, DAD wanted to pursue a more popular form of expression without compromising their artistic and musical vision.

In 2010, in the midst of this transition, DAD signed with ObliqSound and recorded Push, their first EP commercial release. The EP showed the members of DAD that they were on the right track. Less than a year later, they recorded their new release, Vitro, coming out in September 2012. The album was recorded and mixed with Grammy winning engineer David Odlum at his studio in France and combines the many influences of today with complex structures, soaring harmonies, and DAD’s unmistakable character.

Shortly after ending the recording of Vitro, DAD added a new member to make the group a 5 piece. With all members capable of playing several different instruments, and in some cases, two instruments at once, they have created a powerful and unique sound that impresses upon its audience the determination and passion of DAD.

To promote the North-American release of Vitro, DAD will be touring in Canada and the US in September and October 2012.
