Speaking of new CDs, the band Crust from Union, NJ recently released a self-titled six-song EP that I found pretty interesting. The songs “New Software,” “Turtle Boy” and “I Started As A Joke” really had a retro-feel to them, and I don’t mean ’80s hair band retro. I mean DEVO and Flock Of Seagulls retro. They label themselves as experimental progressive rock. I consider them alternative pop rock. It really is interesting music…Interesting enough for me to share it with all of you. Bio
Crust is a psychedelic rock band based out of Cranford, NJ. They combine elements of psychedelia, progressive rock, blues, and world music into their sound. They have been acclaimed to remind people of the powerful textures of bands such as Rush, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and other classic psychedelic and progressive rock bands of the 60's and 70's, while successfully creating their own tasteful, fresh, and completely organic tone. The band was formed by Bobby Shock (Vocalist/Bassist) and Johnny Burns (Drums) on January 1st, 2017, and now also includes Jean Suave (Electric Guitar).
In the small window of 12 months, Crust had managed to write and record their self titled EP "Crust," released in April 2017, their first LP "Sag City Bullshit," in August 2017, and concluded their first year with the EP "Blue World," released on December 25th, 2017. Crust has released their most recent work in February of 2019, their fourth studio ablum/second full length titled "Danglebury," a psychedelic concept album that expanded the bands sonic palette while maintaining their progressive approach to grooves and song writing. This album can be found on Spotify with all of their other records. Their thoughtfully crafted studio albums can only be surpassed by the energy of their live performances, always leaving their audiences with a memorable, entertaining, and exciting experience. The band has more than earned their catch phrase, "crust is a must."
