How did you form?

Corey and Cam have been best friends since they were 3 years old and they grew up sharpening their musical skills together under Corey’s father and Berklee College of Music grad, Gary Amaral. Through Berklee College of Music Professor Jackie Santos, Corey was suggested to Colin as a more than comparable substitute as a bass player to sub for Colin’s jazz quintet Pseudo Blue; they immediately hit it off. Unfortunately, Corey was still touring with Devin Lima & the Cadbury Diesel and Colin was booked solid with gigs from Pseudo Blue so nothing immediately came of this super duo. It wasn’t until these two groups disbanded six months later that Corey and Colin finally met to collaborate in Corey’s basement. Three weeks after getting together to practice for the first time, the band had their first gig at the Apple Peach Festival in Acushnet, Massachusetts and have been gigging together ever since.

Who are some of your influences?

Mostly Jason Mraz and John Mayer with a little bit of the Beatles and Stevie Wonder sprinkled in.

What has your most memorable moment as a band been?

The first gig we ever played at the Apple Peach Festival we showed up and nobody had any idea who we were. We waited in the rain, standing right behind the covered bandstand while a Johnny Cash tribute band refused to finish their set despite the call for their dismissal by those in charge. Finally the Johnny Cash tribute band finished and we sloshed our way up to the stage and began playing our music. When we reached the final chorus of our song, “When I’m Over You,” we looked out to see people in the crowd singing along with us. Suddenly all the wet clothes and damaged gear seemed worth it.

Walk us through your songwriting process?

I (Corey) write the songs for the band. Mostly there is no process involved in it. If I read or think of a line that I think will be cool to put in a song that’s where the song begins, but it’s not limited to that. If a chord progression or guitar line comes out then it starts there. But once I feel like I have a good idea in the making I focus solely on that and nothing else. It’s the only way for me.

Who is the best musician in your band?

We all agree that Gary is probably the best musician in the band. He has so much more experience than the rest of us and he is always there pointing us in the right direction.

What is your favorite local venue?

Being that the majority of the band is from the New Bedford area the only place to play original music is the New Wave Café. They are always so good to us and there’s always a great crowd cheering us on, the atmosphere is just amazing. Also, the soundman, Ron Poitras is the best around.

What separates you from other local bands?

We think we have songs that are more marketable than most other bands around. Not to mention we have a pretty good band story as our lead singer/ rhythm guitar player has a deformed right arm that we have dubbed his lucky fin, which is something we doubt many other bands have.

What do you have coming up that people should know about?

We have just finished two new songs that we are going to perform at all of our upcoming live shows at the Middle East (4/3), All Asia (3/21), Hennessy’s Hooley House (2/25), all in Boston, and The Blackstone in Rhode Island.
