"Clara on Billboard.com"

The Canadian-born singer/songwriter Clara Lofaro is an eclectic performer whose music embraces pop, rock, R&B, jazz, and any number of stops in between. Born and raised in Toronto, Lofaro took up music at the age of 12, and soon displayed a prodigious talent as a singer and keyboard player. Eager to hone her skills, Lofaro was accepted at Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music. While at Lofaro was at Berklee, her music came to the attention of Barry Marshall, a teacher at the college who had worked with R&B legend LaVern Baker and Boston rock stars Peter Wolf and Aimee Mann; Marshall encouraged Lofaro to record her songs, and served as producer for the sessions that would become her first album, 2002's Night Light. Lofaro started her own record label, Come True Records, to release the album, and began dividing her time between Toronto, Boston, and New York as she developed loyal audiences on both sides of the border. Lofaro took over as producer for her second album, 2005's Black + Blue Pearl, and the album picked up radio airplay on New York's WLIR and college stations throughout the Northeast, while 106 VIC radio in Ithaca, NY, named Lofaro's tune "One True Thing" the Song of the Year for 2006. In the fall of 2006, Lofaro and her band took part in Toronto's Indie Week, a competition to find the city's best unsigned talent, and walked off with top honors, beating out over 300 other acts to win a distribution deal with the Canadian branch of Universal Music. ~ Mark Deming, All Music Guide - Billboard.com

Bio

Clara Lofaro was born in Toronto, Ontario to Italian immigrants Giuseppe and Franca Lofaro. As a child, she took piano lessons and was involved in the local church choir. At the age of nine, her first work was published; a poem she wrote for a school competition. This would be the first of many artistic successes for the emerging young artist. A decade and three albums later and Clara Lofaro has traveled far, both physically and artistically. Her love of music, as well as her talent, led her to the prestigious Berklee School of Music, where she advanced her singing and songwriting skills into the meticulous pop melodies heard today. The release of her sophomore album, Black + Blue Pearl, brought Lofaro to side stage acoustic performances with Stevie Nicks and OAR at Jones Beach on Long Island, and the Bamboozle Festival at Giants Stadium. Audience voted Lofaro second favorite at a Fresh 102.7 outdoor concert featuring Edwin McCain, Kimberly Locke and others. She subsequently returned to the studio with producer Mark Turrigiano (Ingrid Michaelson’s Boys and Girls) to create Perfekt World, an album combining the best of both worlds; the old and the new, on every song, regardless of style. The success of Perfekt World opened many eyes and ears across the music industry and led to opening spots on sold-out shows for Duncan Sheik, Anna Nalick, Jeffrey Gaines, and Emerson Hart in 2008 alone, as well as an in-studio performance on New York City’s Fresh 102.7FM, where she performed an acoustic version of Rihanna’s Don’t Stop the Music. It was played in regular rotation on their program, Acoustic Sunrise.

The 2010 release of the self-titled "Clara Lofaro" album promises to be the breakthrough record of this talented artist's career. Skillfully produced by Antony Resta (Collective Soul, Shawn Mullins, Duran Duran) and engineered by Robert L. Smith (Jonas Brothers, Billy Joel, Aerosmith).
