Gavin was born in Zimbabwe in 1979 and moved to South Africa at the age of 1. Starting piano lessons when he was 6 gave him the foundation he needed in order to pursue his true love of the guitar.
At the age of 12, he started his first band and because it was wasn't 'cool' to have a piano player in a band, he started to learn the electric guitar. Playing in bands through out high school, it was his band Schizophrenia that really gave him a taste of what it was like to be a musician by recording in professional studios, playing live throughout the country and getting radio airplay.

Since grade 12, he achieved Grade 5 in classical guitar with Merit after only taking lessons for a year and in 2006 obtained his Grade 8 in electric guitar with Distinction. His songs have been awarded semi-finalist positions and honourable mentions in international competitions such as the Unisong Song Contest, the Billboard Song Contest and the UK Songwriting Competition.

He has shared the stage with top SA rock bands such as Prime Circle, Watershed, Freshly Ground & Arno Carstens. Currently, he is searching for a new rock band to join while continuing to write a solo heavy metal record (to go under the name ToneDeath), produce other artists and promote his book Guitar HomeStudy which was written for the beginning electric guitarist who wants to write the RockSchool exams.
