Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Chrystel is making waves with her special brand of R&B. A couple of months ago, she created a huge buzz with percussion-driven single “Disciples”; now, she returns with a dope follow-up titled “Dangerous,” produced by BigPapito (aka Papa Fall). The track seems to continue her penchant for utilizing African influences, which she explained in a press release:
I freestyled the whole song the first time I heard the beat in the studio and ironically it’s my favorite out of all the records I’ve released. The song reminds me of all of the African music I heard growing up. It has a very nostalgic bass line.
Lyrically, the song itself sees Chrystel singing about a relationship with risks, one that she continues to stay in despite the signs.

Following the release of “Disciples,” emerging singer Chrystel returns with her new single “Dangerous.”
On the breezy tune, produced by Papa Fall, Chrystel acknowledges everything that can go wrong in her risky relationship but still proceeds.
“I don’t know what it is / I don’t know what you did / You’re dangerous,” Chrystel sings on the catchy hook.
“I freestyled the whole song the first time I heard the beat in the studio and ironically it’s my favorite out of all the records I’ve released,” Chrystel told Rated R&B. “The song reminds me of all of the African music I heard growing up. It has a very nostalgic bass line.”
With “Disciples” and “Dangerous” already out, we’re anticipating more music from Chrystel.

She’s not just opening doors between Western and African music, she’s blowing them wide open.
Atlanta-based Chrystel is continuing to step up her game, working with the Senegalese-American producer Papa Fall again, now channelling Zouk beat on Dangerous as classic late 00’s, early 10’s R’n’B become ten times more impressive when amplified by the African style.
Dangerous’ balance of African and Western styles of modern R’n’B capture Chrystel’s story of the je nais se quois in love, and how both sides aren’t necessarily playing the same game, yet jump into to the vibrations of enticing passion. As Dangerous rides, a wave of Zouk beat rhythms with Chrystel providing auditory treats from every angle, the Atlanta singer creates an insatiable track that’s going to be difficult to put down this summer.
With her love of African music and culture, pulsating through her chart ready R’n’B, Chrystel is widening the lens of everyone listening, encouraging us all to truly discover the overflowing amount of culture and music, running through the veins of Africa, as well as this Salt Lake City native gem. - velvet independent
Like Sandy inexplicably infatuated with Danny in Grease, we've all had a moment (or several) in which we've been drawn to someone that we know is bad for us. We know we should look away, push down our feelings, and go on with our lives. But something stops us. We can't move. We need that person. We want to be hurt.
Today, up-and-coming Atlanta based artist Chrystel gives us a modern soundtrack for this universal, yet almost ridiculous concept. "Dangerous" is an upbeat track with a sobering message. As Chrystel's sultry voice sings, "Took me so high / Did me so good / But you let me down / And I knew you would."
She laments on her weakness, hating the fact that she needs her lover so badly. But this track comes with a slight twist, with Chrystel reminding us that we're not always so innocent. - musicto.com

With an emphatic love for her family’s West African heritage, Chrystel’s Disciples is an anthem for both sides of the Atlantic.
Born in Salt Lake City and now residing in Atlanta, Chrystel is a force not to be messed with as Disciples praises those who remain loyal while singling out the snakes in the grass. American-Senegalese producer, Papa Fall, provided the running beat throughout, amplifying Chrystel’s love of modern pop/R’n’B that flows unapologetically with the heart and soul of African tribal drums anchoring the track. With her introspective lyrics countering the upbeat-Afro-rhythm that drives Disciples, Chrystel balances the dark, underlying narrative for an empowering Summer anthem. - velvet independent
