"Jan 2013- Authentic and Positive. Chelsea Musick is a Country-Christian Artist and Speaker."

This is an important album that will truly minister to girls struggling with self-image. The message is to know that you don't have to be perfect; God made you the way you are for a reason. You are beautiful, you have something to say and you are worth it. Chelsea clearly loves our Lord and Savior Jesus with all of her heart and wants to celebrate that fact with every song. I have three young daughters and this is a nice upbeat pop country album with positive biblical messages which is a great alternative to Taylor Swift. Chelsea brings her walk with Jesus into her songwriting and this is the best album of this genre I've heard since Bethany Dillon's debut album, which puts her in great company in my opinion. - New Release Tuesday

"Chelsea Musick CD Release"

“God sent me on a mission to reach my generation,” Chelsea, a Monroe Township resident, said. “These songs speak to what we’re going through as teenagers and young adults.”
In celebration of the release, Chelsea is hosting a free concert at Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Cape May on Nov. 3 beginning at 7 p.m.

“I just want the music to be heard,” she said. “I want to be able to share it.”

Chelsea released her first CD when she was just 15 years old.

“I’m 19 now, so this one is totally different,” she said.

However, one song on the album is the same — one of her favorites call “Keep Your Pants On.”

“I just loved it so much I had to put it on the new CD, too,” Chelsea said of the song. “I feel so many teens still think of love as a throw-away thing and it shouldn’t be. It’s something that should be held on to and you should keep your pants on until it’s time.”

She wrote the song about a conversation between a mother and daughter discussing abstinence when she was 15.
“I hope they (teenagers) can listen to the song and take it to heart,” she said.Another of her favorite songs on the new CD is the title track, “Perfectly You.” - South Jersey Times

"Interview 15: Chelsea Musick (Musician)"

Interview 15: Chelsea Musick (Musician)
Chelsea Musick is a seventeen year old musician from Tennessee. Chelsea has been performing for audiences since the age of two, expessing her love for music and singing. Now living in New Jersey, Chelsea is a country girl at heart, with big dreams and big plans for Music City. “I’m a normal girl, with a huge dream”, states Chelsea. She believes and promotes, with her music and her image, a positive message and sound. She inspires the teenage generation to stay true to who they are, without conforming to the peer pressures of today’s society. Chelsea Musick is one of the freshest country acts on the rise, bringing a new scene to the music genre.

1. How long have you been singing?
“I have been singing since the age of two. At five years old, I knew I wanted to be a country singer.”

2. Who are your major musical influences?
“My musical influences are Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood, Natalie Grant, Jason Crabb, Chris Tomlin, and so many other people that inspire me!”

3. Do you write your own songs?
“Yes, I write my own songs :). I love to songwrite. It’s such an awesome way to let feelings out.”

4. What has been the greatest moment in your career so far?
“I have had so many great moments. God has blessed me with more than enough and I’ve had an amazing time! I honestly don’t think I can pick one great moment. Haha.”

5. Why do you love performing?
“Performing for me is something I was born to do. I feel so happy and blessed when I get the chance to do what I love. I love to show other teens that it’s okay to be yourself and to do what you want to do.”

6. Explain your involvement in TBN’s IShine KNECT.
“IShine has been such an awesome opportunity for me! I got the chance to tour the country in 2010 and spread God’s word to teens and tweens. It was so much fun!”

7. What do you hope to achieve in the near future?
“In the near future, I hope to record a new album, and tour around the country to spread a positive word with today’s youth :)”

8. What cover have you done that you are most proud of?
“I absolutely love singing God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood. My Dad is a veteran of Desert Storm…I love singing for the veterans and supporting our soldiers.”

9. Do you have any exciting upcoming projects or news?
“I am preparing to record my second CD soon! I can’t wait! All new songs!”

10. Do you have any advice for people looking to become successful musicians?
“Honestly, I don’t think I’m in much position to give much advice on that question, because I’m still working at it myself. Haha. If I could say anything, though, it would be to work hard and never give up. People will try to knock us down, but it’s up to us to how we react! React in a way that makes you work hard for your goals.”

11. Did you find it hard starting out as a musician?
“Yes, it can be hard at times. It has been hard for me financially to keep things going, musically. My parents do the best they can, helping me with my dreams, but since I am one of four children, there’s only so much you can do. God always seems to find a way, though. :)”

12. Who is your mentor?
“I honestly don’t have a mentor musically, but I’d have to say God and my family.”

13. Do you have any mottos or quotes that you live by?
“I usually say ‘Kill ‘em with kindness ’. Lol. I like to remind myself and others of that motto. I try my best to live by the words of God (the Bible). That’s where all the best quotes are! (Jeremiah 29: 11)”

14. What are your favourite songs at the moment?
“At the moment, I love I Will Rise by Chris Tomlin, Sing by Josh William, and Absolutely by Starfield.”

15. What style/genre of music do you like to sing?
“I love to sing Country and Christian music.”

16. Name songs you feel would be on your life soundtrack.
”I’m Letting Go & Free to be Me- Francesca Battistelli
Perfect People- Natalie Grant
Walk on Water- Jason Crabb
While I’m Waiting- John Waller
You’re Not Alone- Meredith Andrews
Crazy Dreams- Carrie Underwood
Ride & Happy Girl- Martina McBride
Just to name a few…Lol! Life is full of up’s and down’s, and these songs have helped me and really inspired me through the years.”

17. If you could perform anywhere and with anyone, where and who?
“I know this amazing singer has passed away, but I would love to sing with Pasty Cline at the Grand Ole Opry, of course!”

18. How do you deal with criticism?
“When I was younger, I didn’t deal with criticism that well. As I got older, I began to understand that everyone is going to have their own opinion, and I can’t please everyone. I have to be myself. I deal with it a lot better now. I try to find a way to change the negative criticism into something positive…and find a way to improve with constructive criticism.”

19. Describe yourself in three words.
“Honest. Humble. Gullible.”

20. Are there any particular charities you support?
“I support Songs for the Cure, Relay for Life, and PETA.”

21. Harry Potter or Twilight?
“Definitely Twilight! Haha.”

22. Blair or Serena?
“I honestly don’t watch Gossip Girl and know nothing about the characters…But I’d have to say Serena because Blake Lively is awesome! (Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants! Wooh! Lol!)”

23. If you were stuck in a TV show, what would it be?
”I Love Lucy and Full House. :) I love those shows!”

24. What does “A Touch of Passion” mean to you?
“A Touch of Passion means being able to follow your dreams with the fire and passion inside of you. Dreams without passion are nothing…But with a little bit of passion, your dreams can ignite and take off!”

"Chili Fest brings spice to spring"

This year's event is bigger and better than ever with great food, fun and music for the whole family

By Kristie Rearick
krearick@sjnewsco.com

Chili cooks from all over the country are getting fired up for the Third Annual Delaware Valley ICS Regional Chili Cook-off Concert and Festival. Chili experts from as far as Texas and Florida are signed up to be a part of this all-day event set for Saturday, April 26 at Gloucester County College in Deptford.

The festival, which gets bigger and better every year according to its creator, Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce President Rhone Carr, will have something for the whole family.

"The first year we had 15,000 people. Last year 24,000 came ... this year we expect between 30,000 and 40,000 people to come," said Carr.

There are three catagories for cooks to compete in: traditional red, chili verde (a green chili) and salsa. About 93 cooks have already signed up, 18 more than last year, Carr said.

"It's a regional cook-off sanctioned by the ICS (International Chili Society.) The winners will be quailified for the 2008 World's Chili Cook-Off Championship in October," Carr said. The location of the championship hasn't been announced yet, he said.

Amateur chili cooks can also get involved in the action as visitors to the event can sample their fare and vote on their favorites. Cooks have to have a minimum of two gallons of chili to enter and the prize for the people's choice is $1,500.

With prizes ranging from $100 to $2,000, it's no wonder chili chefs throw in their hats for the top prize. But chili isn't the only draw at the festival. There will also be a classic car show, a wing-eating contest featuring Gloucester County's own Bill "El Wingador" Simmons and United Way Duck Town -- a children's play area with pony rides, carnival rides, a balloon bounce and an obstacle course.

Great music acts will also be on hand to spice up the day. Country music star Sara Evans is the featured performer. With such hits as "Restless" and "Real Fine Place To Start," this star is sure to light up the stage at the festival. "A Real Fine Place to Start" reached No. 1 on the country music charts in 2005.

"Chili is just one part of it. It's so much more than just a chili cook-off. We have great country music from singers like Sara Evans, Jason Michael Carroll and Sarah Johns," Carr offered. "We also have a brand new band called Lost Trailers and a local band called Wanted ... Chelsea Musick from Williamstown will also perform and Chelsea Orcutt from Swedesboro will sing the National Anthem."

Musick, just 14 years old, is thrilled to be a part of the Chili Festival's music lineup.

"I'm really honored to have the chance to do it," she said. "Rhone Carr got a hold of me and asked me if I wanted to sing at the festival. I said 'yes, without a doubt.'"

This young singer has always had a passion for music and has been performing since she was 2. She was born in a town just 30 minutes outside of Nashville, Tenn. and has always felt a pull toward her "country roots."

"I love country music ... Martina McBride, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Carrie Underwood. I love them," Musick said. "I also love Sara Evans. I can't believe I'm acutally opening up for her. I'm so pumped."

Another local young singer, Orcutt, "has been singing basically all of her life." This Kingsway Regional High School junior will be singing the National Anthem at the festival and was happy to be able to do it this year.

"Rhone Carr has been asking me to sing at the event for the past two years," Orcutt said. "I've been on vacation for the last two cook-offs, but this year I was available."

The event has a lot to offer, but chili is still the main course. And local charities benefit. The ICS is a non-profit organization that sanctions local chili cook-offs -- including the one held here -- to help raise funds for charities.

"We help raise funds for the Gloucester County College Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, United Way, People for People, The Boys and Girls Club and the 4-H Fair Association," Carr said.

The event's popularity has grown from year to year and it has become a spring staple in the county.

"I started this three years ago. When I pitched the idea, a lot of people looked at me like I had three heads, but now they've come around," Carr said. "There's definitely a little bit of everything for everyone here."

f you go: The Third Annual Delaware Valley ICS Regional Chili Cook-off Concert and Festival will be held on Saturday, April 26 on the campus of Gloucester County College on 1400 Tanyard Road in Deptford from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 per car load (limit 5 people per car.) Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com or visit www.delvalchilicookoff.com for other ways to purchase tickets. "Teen competes in CMT online talent contest"

Not only is music in her last name, song-writing and melody-making is in Chelsea Musick's soul.
South Jersey might not be the country genre headquarters of the United States, but Monroe Township's Musick can be heard in Country Music Television's online talent competition.
The self-taught guitar and piano player must rely on her family and 2,400 MySpace fans to pull her through six rounds of online voting.
Musick, 16, made it to the third round in CMT's Music City Madness, a national online talent search. She outshone 500 applicants who submitted videos to the Web site in July to be considered for the competition.
"We are looking for original, unsigned talent," said Amanda Murphy, manager of corporate communications at CMT.
When Musick was nine years old, she was a finalist in NBC's "America's Most Talented Kids," and has been practicing vocals, instruments, and song writing ever since.
As a home-schooled student, she finishes her daily studies in about four hours and dedicates the rest of the day to practicing.
"If I am sitting at home doing history, and I have a song line pop in my head, I can just pause the (lesson) tape really quick and write it down," she said.
She has written or co-written all of the songs she hopes to include on her first album, but currently lack the funds to start recording.
According to Murphy, the winner of all six rounds will receive an all-expense paid trip to Nashville to record an episode of CMT's online performance series "Unplugged at Studio 330." The grand prize winner, announced on Dec. 16, will also meet with Warner Brothers Records and get advice from country music star Randy Travis.
"I do need a lot of votes," Musick said.
In the current round of the competition, Musick's self-written "Go Sing the Blues" is up against Toby Bradley's "Bill Mack Won't Play my Track." Third-round voting ends on Nov. 17, when either Musick or Bradley will move on to the fourth leg of the competition.
"It's really hard, though," Musick said of the competition. "People are really talented.

WASHINGTON — Youth supporting youth — it doesn’t get much better than that.

Seventeen-year-old country/Christian singer Chelsea Musick traveled to Washington this week from New Jersey to sing at a benefit Saturday for local boy Warren White, 7, who recently was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor on his brain stem. Musick was lured to the area by Darvin and Lori Yoder, of Yoder’s Furniture and Appliances, when Darvin read about her on Facebook. Through her agents, Darvin booked her to do the benefit concert to raise funds for Warren and his family.

“Parents should bring their kids,” Yoder said. “She definitely relates to kids.”

He said Musick will perform at 7 p.m. at 4 Seasons (the old Big Blue building) and will sign autographs at a meet-and-greet session afterward. Local band Rocky Rhoads also will perform. Tickets are $5 per person and available at the door only.

“There are no reserved seats,” Yoder said. “It’s first-come, first-served, so if you want a front row seat, get there early. The gates open at 4 (p.m.).”

He added that 100 percent of the proceeds from ticket sales and from food sold at the show will go to White. In addition, autographed sports memorabilia will be auctioned to raise funds for the Whites. Yoder has obtained North Carolina items signed by Roy Williams; Bob Knight will autograph a basketball personally to the ball’s winner; and there are objects from Butler and other places.

Although she now lives in New Jersey, Musick was born in Tennessee and just released a self-titled CD, which is her first.

“It’s cool because now I can say I’m a country singer from Tennessee,” she said with a laugh, adding that many of her songs have a Christian overtone.

Musick wrote eight of the 11 songs on the album herself. Her main hit off the CD is called “Keep Your Pants On,” a song she co-wrote with “two guys from Nashville” that urges young people to be responsible in their decision-making. She said it’s blunt and to the point, and sometimes people might be taken aback by it, but she writes her songs to be positive inspirations for today’s youth — “first and foremost just believing in yourself.”

“Hopefully they listen and get it through their heads,” she said. “The reaction is funny (to the song lyrics), but it’s really, really cool to see people are reacting to it and are listening to it.”

Currently, Musick is unsigned.

“There’s no label behind me yet,” she said. “Everybody wants you to change when you sign, but it’s important to stay true to yourself. It’s cool to be able to tell people I’m doing it on my own.”

The teen musician said she’s not on tour the way most people think of band tours. There’s no bus and no band. She plays guitar and sings, but she said her plan is to get a band together in the future.

“Right now it’s all on God’s timing,” Musick said. “I’m just doing as many shows as I can. I’m honored to be in Indiana. Most of my shows are on the east coast. We’re gonna make a lot of money for Warren. I met him today. He’s such an awesome kid.”

White was diagnosed in late September with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gilomia (DIPG). The only treatments for the benign tumor are oral medications and radiation, which can only prolong his life. His family describes him as a typical 7-year-old who likes to play outdoors, enjoys sports, video games, board games, and going to the movies. He likes animals and music, and his favorite performers are Taylor Swift, Tom Petty and Trace Adkins. - Washington Herald Times -By Andrea McCann
