"The album opens with ‘Well Played, Mauer’, a classic slice of American rock with it’s driving, call-to-arms, crescendo and a fine up-tempo feel. The last band of the night was from San Diego. Though the headliners, they were there nice and early, packed in some take-out fast food, and ate it on the tailgate out behind the Vault. A band’s work ethic doesn’t get much more grounded than that. I saw this ethic a lot at Madlins. Once Chasing Claymores took the stage, I saw another remnant of the Madlins days. Though a lot of bands went through there, with a lot of talented people, what was icing on the cake for me were ‘the drummers’ in those bands. I have a dear friend who is a drummer. I learned a lot of band knowledge through him, so drummers have a special place in my heart, especially great ones. Madlins had some legendary ones come through. CC’s drummer stood out to me as this picture will attest. The entire band is high energy with straight ahead harmonious alternative rock tunage and the stage performance is just as professional, which might explain why they were sold out of their first EP release, ‘The Act of Letting Go’ (I got a burned copy). As I stood there in a large semi-circle of fans having the hair blown off their ears, next to Josh Royse (yeah, what a class act and at such a young age) rocking out, I thought again about the old days of Jackie Findl and the adage: ‘the more things change, the more things stay the same.” - PT Rothschild
