Bio
Charles Mansfield's sound has been compared to the likes of Neil Young, Frank Black and The Mountain Goats. The past few years have seen Charles in New York playing clubs largely shoulder to shoulder with the Antifolk scene at Sidewalk cafe, and other New York and Brooklyn venues. His current “Birthday Card EP" was released July 29, 2016 at Sidewalk Cafe, New York, NY.
“Monday Morning EP”
A strength of Charles Mansfield's music is that it seems to transport the listener to a different atmosphere. The song "Monday Morning," with its epic hiking rhythms and heaped on guitar and echos, really felt like the soundtrack to a night drive through rural and misty Vermont, through marshy river banks, moonlight basking on the road. "Not Easy to Return" with its rough rhythm and twanging notes transported me to a smoky saloon bar. He knows how to pair his voice and guitar chords beautifully. - Olaya D. Barr (Angelica-music.com)
For Folk's Sake - Favourite finds of 2010.
Charles Mansfield caught our eye with his dark, menacing All The Way [EP], a deep record that keeps revealing more and more of itself...... enticingly dark yet accessible sound and lyrics which warrant repeated explorations” – Tom White
All the Way EP is a good set of four songs to introduce himself as an artist. The title track is the best offering, as sparse piano and rattling drums create a unique vehicle for Mansfield’s voice. His songwriting is solid, but it’s his voice that’s the real draw here. Fans of the Mountains Goats or unique voices in general should apply within. - Stephen Carradini (Independent Clauses)
