"Song of the Day" Charity Huot, "Tangled Directions""

Denver-Music.com now has a series called "Song of the Day." Some of the songs you may have heard, others you may have not. This series will try to help you, the music fan, in finding some new artists, or give you a chance to listen to a song you've hopefully already grown to love. It will also bring an opportunity to buy some CD's, and give the information you'll need to see some of the featured artist's shows when they come around your area.

Colorado is very fortunate to be a fixture for many talented musicians as they make their way across the country on tour, and has incredible venues in which music fans can see shows, like Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the Ogden Theatre, the Denver Fillmore, the Bluebird Theater, the Fox Theatre, and the Boulder Theater, to name a few. Many of the songs will be by artists who will be making their way to the venues near you.

Also, if you have a song you'd like to see as the "Song of the Day" leave it at the comment section of this page or send me a Facebook message, or contact me via Twitter. I'll do my best to accommodate your request. I hope you like the new series, and enjoy their music as much as I do.

Today's "Song of the Day" comes from the talented, singer/songwriter, Charity Huot, with her song, "Tangled Directions," off her album which bears the same name. She hails from the great city of Duluth, Minnesota, and picked up a guitar while at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, while also performing for the University Singers and Vocal Jazz. Her songs are rich, her voice is powerful, and her passion for music is incredible. She states that music to her is, "healing, relaxing, comforting, exciting, therapeutic, creative, connecting, universal, peace, love, movement, free, healthy, life..."

Lyrics always catch my ear, and the song, "Tangled Directions," begins with:

I sip my morning coffee
Watching the sun rise
Still framed in my memory
Fools rush down the road
Children screaming 'It's time to get going'
Day break energy has begun

And has this verse:

I'm driving down that highway
No map in front of me
We all need time to dream
So, come and join the ride
Take your chances before they pass you by
Your time has arrived

To buy her CD, for updates, tour dates, and other news click on her website, get this song or her CD on iTunes, or follow her on their Facebook Page. She's playing a gig in California tonight, and will be in the Duluth/Superior area April 1st and 2nd. Information for the shows can be seen here. Charity Huot has performed ever since she can remember. She says it's a passion that allows her to communicate her life experiences with others.
"It's a way to relax," Huot said. "It's a way to get exited, it's a way to organize my thoughts and hopefully share that and give messages to people who are looking for people to listen to and find some peace in the things I write."
Charity describes her music as a melting pot of different flavors.
She released her first album a year ago. One of the songs is called Tangled Direction.
"It's the title track off my album, I wrote it when I came back from living in the Caribbean for a few months. I went through my journal, highlighted things. It was a transitioning back to our country," she said.
Huot performs at a number of local venues when she's not working with children at the YMCA. But ,a chance opportunity to perform at touring concert event called Lilith Fair, rests solely on her fans.
"For me to be able to perform at Lilith Fair, is really on the track where my dreams are coming from and where I want to go, she said.
Huot says she submitted several songs to an online radio station, where one of the songs made the top 100. Not expecting anything, she found out she was eligible for several contests. A concert with all female performers, Lilith Fair would put her on stage with several famous singers.
"So for me to be a part of Lilith and perform with women like Sarah McLachlan, Emmy Lou Harris, and Erykah Badu, and all these women, would be phenomenal."
The local performer says even to be in the running is beyond anything she could have imagined
"Seriously, there is just one person at a show it's worth my time, so, not to say Lilith fair it be cool to have thousands of people there," she said.
Huot says she hopes to release a second album in the near future.
