The local band Character Assassins will be the opening act at the World Muaythai Council World Championships at Saugus Speedway tomorrow.
The hard rock/metal band was formed in early 2006 and band members are: Aaron Levario, vocals; Mark Benz, guitar/backup vocals; Jim Riggi, bass/backup vocals; and Andy Martino on drums.
The band's lyrics convey personal introspection, social injustices and "anything that invokes a reaction." It has played numerous shows in Los Angeles and surrounding areas, and also made it to the semi finals of the Emergenza Music Festival, bringing more than 100 people on a Tuesday night.
The band has recently finished its new three-song demo and will be going into the studio this fall to record a full length CD. Hoping to capitalize on its local success, the band is also starting to play shows outside of California. With influences ranging from Pantera, to Hatebreed, to Suicidal Tendencies, to Lamb of God, the Character Assassins "are not going to compromise and will definitely leave a trail behind them. Summer of 2009 started it for Character Assassins, sharing the stage with headline acts like Hed Pe, Lynchmob, and many more. Based in the Los Angeles area, Character Assassins has played over 100 shows and one of their hit songs “World Gone Crazy” has been featured on 100.1 The EDGE radio as the #1 fan pick for over 6 weeks in a row and is also being played on xchamberradio.com and indie104.com. Character Assassins consists of Aaron Levario as lead vocals who’s many years of listening to Pantera, Lamb of God, Faith No More, Alice in Chains and Suicidal Tendencies greatly influenced his cadence styles, Mark Benz on guitar and back-vocals attest his love of music from his dad, Pantera, Dimebag Darrell and Hatebreed. Cheap Trick, Stray Cats and George Thorogood to name a few were the reasons why Jim Haas on bass and back-up vocals is creating music, and with Andy Martino on drums who has built his rhythms from works such as Rage Against The Machine, Hatebreed, Pantera, Deftones and Hed PE. Character Assassins has always been a metal band with groove but now with new melodies has turned this act into a triple threat and has created a new style of metal. With vintage hip-hop influences and distinctive melodies, Character Assassins have a unique and new sound that has an original individuality. As quoted from the band,

Most recently in the summer of 2010, Character Assassins signed with Mike Crowley of Red S.A.M. for management of the project. Their self titled debut album was produced by Sonny Mayo (formerly of Snot, Sevendust, Hed Pe and Amen) and mastered by Maor Appelbaum. Character Assassins is a not just a band, but a euphoric lifestyle.
