CD: 10 songs; 48:36 Minutes
Styles: Blues Rock, Ensemble Blues, Americana
The second day of the week may not be most people’s favorite, but when “Monday Night!” rolls around, the CD Woodbury Band knows how to party. A full ensemble from the state of Washington, it includes lead vocalist and guitarist CD Woodbury, drummer and vocalist Don Montana, saxophonist/percussionist/vocalist Mike Marinig, keyboard player and vocalist Chris Kliemann, and Mike Fish on bass guitar. Woodbury founded his posse in 2009 and released “Sunbanks Live!” in 2010, while earning a reputation as “the Northwest’s best-kept secret.” With their big-band sound and swinging energy, they definitely have the talent to become well-known blues rock mavens. To prove it, they’ve provided ten rollicking originals on their latest album, with these three worming their way into fans’ ears:
Track 02: “Mean Jenny”--In the CD liner notes, the band gives thanks to the feisty female mentioned in the title, “for her childhood stories and not hunting us down like the dogs we were after the release of this album.” In the song, “Mean Jenny” is depicted as the harshest harridan “down on the bayou”: “Mean old Jenny, she was raised in a bar - got a spoon from a whiskey jar. Make no sense for her to give a damn. Being mean is how she made a plan!” The vocal refrain is shamelessly catchy, as are the guitar rhythms and solos.
Track 05: “Pawn Shop Blues”--The most traditional blues number on “Monday Night!” showcases the ‘supplemental banking system’ on which many down-and-out folks rely: “Well, I got twenty dollars in the bank; the rent is due and my gas tank’s low. I’m going to pick up my old Gibson guitar, and it’s down to the pawn shop I go.” The worst part is that even when he hocks his prized possession, our narrator is only getting “pennies to the dollar.” Chris Kliemman’s piano keyboard is especially fiery as it explains the pathos of the pawn shop.
Track 06: “Pleasure’s All Mine”--A change of pace from either of the two previously-mentioned tracks, “Pleasure’s All Mine” is a mid-tempo thank-you note to this band’s fans: “When it’s all said and done, we’ve had a whole lot of fun. We’ll do it again, time after time - don’t mention it. The pleasure’s all mine.” Everyone’s in top form here, whether they’re vocalist Mike Marinig or the instrumentalists, who take turns taking the lead.
CD Woodbury has performed for two U.S. Presidents, foreign dignitaries, and Jimi’s music for the Hendrix family. That’s an impressive resume, and hopefully more radio stations and individual listeners will notice it. When the workday blahs strike, let this CD help you blow off steam on “Monday Night!”

Critical Acclaim for "Monday Night!" by the CD Woodbury Band:
"Monday Night may be the right time and this album should propel the CD Woodbury Band, who has laboring the trenches for some time, right up to the next level." - Rick J Bowen, No Depression
"Being deep in the Americana/blues-rock pocket, this is no mere bar band dreaming of stardom, this is bunch ready to break big." Chris Spector, Midwest Record
"The title cut was our favorite. It could have easily been named 'Monday Night on the corner of Rampart and Canal,' with its funked-up percussion and organ, the scratchy guitars and Famous Flames-era horn section driving this second-line romp and 'cookin’ us all up a little rice and beans.'
For several years, the CD Woodbury Band has been called 'the Northwest’s best-kept secret.' Now, the word’s out everywhere with the release of 'Monday Night!,' with its clever songcrafting, fascinating instrumentation, and overwhelming power to make you wanna get up and boogie!!!" - Sheryl and Don Crow
"A rocking album, full of burning guitar, tasteful keyboards, soulful sax, and great tunes, Monday Night! is a solid debut for the CD Woodbury Band. Full of rocking swing-revival, classic Texas shuffles, seasoned with hints of R&B and jazz, the album features a band that can downright play...
...The album is well worth a listen. Not only is the playing and production quite good, but the style is unique. Of course, the band draws heavily on more traditional blues influences, but their sound is not old-fashioned. Quite the contrary, they are a new and unique addition to the blues tradition.
The Review: 8.5/10" Nik Rodewald - Blues Rock Review
"The CD Woodbury Band plug blues into caffeine-stoked chord changes and make a great appearance with the results on Monday Night." - The Alternate Root - New Release Rack
"...Monday Night! is a stellar, well-rounded set of blues and R&B that is definitely worth checking out." Blues Bytes

The Seattle-based C.D. Woodbury Band made their debut appearance at the Sunbanks Blues Festival last fall and delivered a stellar, crowd-pleasing performance nicely documented on this new release. Woodbury is a terrific guitarist and handles vocals nicely while he whoops up the crowd with his set of mostly covers and a few choice original numbers.
That guitar prowess is displayed right away during the opening track with “Further On Up The Road,” where the whole band actually gives samples of their skills with solos during their introductions. Woodbury again soars on the strings for the Freddie Kind classic “Pack It Up” and a fine take of Robben Ford’s “Prison of Love.” He also offers a very well-done take on Willie Dixon’s “Built for Comfort,” using a softer delivery that brings the tune across naturally, as too often is the case with this song the singer tend to make it a shouter and it really doesn’t have to be that way. Woodbury throws a little humorous banter with the crowd during the song about attempts at losing weight. Oh wouldn’t it be great to mix that Slim Fast with Kahlua and ice cream as your daily meals. Makes sense to me. The Neville Brothers’ “Yellow Moon” also brings tremendously sizzling guitar licks that had to get the audience on their feet. But to me, the highlight of the set is “Can I Change My Mind.” Okay, I am a sucker for this Tyrone Davis masterpiece and it is probably one of my all time favorite soul numbers. But if it is presented in the manner it was done originally and handled correctly by the right person it will always sounds fantastic. C.D. Woodbury does just that.
C.D. Woodbury made a statement with this set at Sunbanks for those in the Northwest who may not have been aware of him before. He was letting everybody know, “Hey, here I am! Watch out, because I’m here to stay!” For those in attendance, I am certain they were convinced. Sunbanks Live! is a nice souvenir for those who were there. For the rest, well listen closely, because C.D. Woodbury is definitely here to stay!!

There have been several really good live albums recorded at the multi BB Award winning Sunbanks R&B Festivals and the 2011 release by the CD Woodbury Band, Sunbanks Live! is another distinguished example. Clint has been plying his trade for years playing in Polly O’Keary’s Rhythm Method, The Mark DuFresne Band as well as other projects. Woodbury’s band is the former rhythm section from Tim Casey’s Bluescats; Chris Kliemann on keys, Don Montana on drums, Mike Fish on bass, and rounding things out is multi-instrumentalist Mike Marinig on sax, flute and more. Sunbanks Live - Compilation
...Up next was a band that is a BB nominated band, and the CD Woodbury Band showed why they are in that league.
Bandleader Woodbury, a singer/guitar player is familiar to those who used to see Polly O'Keary and The Rhythm Method a few years back (Polly is now part of a national act playing bass for Too Slim and the Taildraggers). CD Woodbury also was seen playing for Mark DuFresne a lot after Mark left Roomful of Blues. The CD Woodbury Band is a nominee in the Best New Band category. They filled the dance floor seconds into their performance and when I left to get ready for work the next day, they were still dancing. Singing and on what must be a guitar with magical powers is of course, CD Woodbury. On bass is Mike Fish. On drums is Don Montana, and on keys is Chris Kliemann. One of the songs they did was "Two Wheels" and was written by Don Montana. I had an image in mind of Blues festivals like Winthrop where there are a couple of hundred Harleys in attendance. The bikes and the blues hang out together. There are some songs where CD's guitar would cry, or would make you feel like you were taking off in a rocket, soaring past this galaxy. The power and the passion of a great Blues guitar is something everyone should get a chance to appreciate. He did a song from Hound Dog Taylor and the Houserockers, "Give Me Back My Wig," and if yo liked how Luther Allison used to do that one, you will love how CD Woodbury does it. The slide guitar work on this one was astounding.
Each song took the audience higher, and when they did Flip, Flop, and Fly" some swing dancers put on a show worthy of a Jack and Jill contest (something swing dancers sometimes do). Then they did one of Ronnie Earl's songs and I was more than sold. Send this band (and a few other local ones) to visit Bruce Iglauer at Alligator Records in Chicago so that the world will hear what we see in Seattle. - Bluesletter - Washington Blues Society

The Secret is Out:
Since their earliest gigs together, the CD Woodbury Band has been described as "the Northwest's best kept secret" by fans and fellow musicians. With the 2013 release of their studio debut recording, "Monday Night!", the word is out! The CD Woodbury Band has gone on to international critical acclaim, radio, and internet airplay. In terms of radio airplay, the CD Woodbury Band could be the most successful currently unsigned and unrepresented blues artists of 2013.
C.D. Woodbury has performed in Texas Roadhouses and in Stadiums. He has performed for two US Presidents, foreign dignitaries, and Jimi's music for the Hendrix family. He has jammed with jazz legends, international blues stars, and has worked with sidemen to the biggest rock acts. Though he has played many styles, he always returns to the blues and American roots music on his guitar.
In 2009, the C.D. Woodbury Band was formed primarily out of an unrehearsed appearance at the Snohomish Blues Invasion with CD and former members of Tim Casey's back-up band, the Bluescats. The Bluescats were one of the top acts in the region and a top selling act in Europe, including edging Eric Clapton to be the number 1 blues act in Belgium one year. Chris Kliemann, Don Montana, and Mike Fish are a dynamic, tight rhythm section. In 2010 the Washington Blues Society named the CD Woodbury Band "Best New Blues Band" at their annual Best of the Blues Awards, and awarded CD the BB for "Best Electric Blues Guitar". Multi-instrumentalist Mike Marinig became the fifth member of the band in May, 2010.
The CD Woodbury Band plays a mixture of new interpretations of old favorites, obscure gems, and original songs.
In 2010 the Washington Blues Society awarded the CD Woodbury Band "Best New Blues Band" BB Award. CD was awarded CD Woodbury the BB Award in 2010 and 2011 for Electric Guitar.
In 2013, The CD Woodbury Band released "Monday Night!", which gained international airplay and was consistently in the Roots Report charts Blues Top 50 and at #1 for their WA State Roots Radio chart for 30 Straight weeks.
In 2013, the recording "Monday NIght!" was selected to represent the Washington Blues Society for The Best Self-Produced CD competition in the International Blues Challenge and was named one of the five finalists.
During the 2014 IBC week, Jerry Lee Lewis' Cafe and Honky Tonk named the CD Woodbury Band the "2014 Kings of Beale Street."
