“Cartright: Once Denton's Cartright releases its self-produced EP, An Assessment of Violent Entertainment, their cult following should soon coagulate (especially with lyrics like "She broke my wrists/But I'm still makin' fists"). Surprisingly, their live show hasn't attracted such a fan base yet, though it deserves one. The easiest comparison for this quintet is Little Grizzly, from their ragtag sensibility to their drunken brew of country whiskey, piano vodka and pop-rock punch. Singer/guitarist Ben Cartright puts on one helluva show, hollering at the crowd and stomping around the stage, though his band can't help but shout along and get into the spirit as well.

If any new band around town is worth irritating your lungs for, this Denton quintet is it, culling the best of americana in a rough-and-tumbling folk-rock set that would make south by southwest crowds salivate. Admittedly, the group's green, but that unhinged quality worked in its favor. Songwriter ben cartright in particular stomped to the beat like a drunk hooligan and had a wonderfully haggard 20-packs-a-day voice, and the rest of the band played the kind of folk-not-folk that would make a perfect touring companion for the likes of black mountain or akron/family. - Sam Machkovech

Bio
Cartright was founded in 2006 and is Ben Russell (guitar/vocals), Joe Cornetti (rhodes/organ/piano), Lou Cornetti (bass), and Nick Cornetti (drums). While Cartright's music has been variously categorized as no wave, avant-garde rock, post-american pop, and psych, it is primarily concerned with making music that challenges the boundaries of conventional thought. Rumbustious bellowing and tumble down rythms that reminisce of a melodic accident, such as the rythm one might find in rain or sex. Cartright "deals in the rawest of raw emotions...packs the kind of punch that leaves you choking and smiling." (Daytrotter.com)
