"This week’s Monday exclusive is another whole album, as Songwriting premieres The Broken Road. It’s the debut full-length from Chelsea Carlson, a New Jersey-based artist whose particular brand of folk- and country-tinged rock has already seen her win a Jersey Acoustic Music (JAM) award for Top New Female Act." - Songwriting Magazine
"As a vulnerable, raw, stripped-down approach to her regular sound, “Belong” is a powerful release, showcasing Carlson’s impressive vocals." - Planet Stereo
"Chelsea! Chelsea! The crowd at Hat City Kitchen could not get enough of her at her mega CD release party last month." - Patricia Rogers, Jersey Indie
"Friday night at Hat City Kitchen, it was a packed house with 3 bands performing as special guests for Chelsea Carlson‘s debut CD Release Party, The Broken Road. Chelsea Carlson took the stage and that is when you felt the overall energy of the room go up. You look at her expecting one thing, and than she surprises you. Her set ended with the crowd cheering, 'Chelsea! Chelsea!' The feeling of love and mutual support was evident in the room and even more so between the bands." - Patricia Rogers, Masconsumption
"Featured on the project and premiering exclusively on GroundSounds is the fresh new track “Lost In Love,” it’s a powerful song, full of emotion and pure sonic goodness." - Jon Berrien, GroundSounds
"Chelsea Carlson...the 23-year-old Flanders singer/songwriter is a rocker in the vein of Grace Potter or, reaching back, Led Zepplin." - Phil Garber, Mount Olive Chronicle
"'Cherry Blossom', a track off the upcoming record, is the perfect introduction to Chelsea’s style, encouraging listeners from the get-go to relax with its soft, lullaby-like guitar opening...forming a cohesively classic folk-rock track from a young and ambitious singer-songwriter." - Elmore Magazine
An interview with Chelsea Carlson about the release of "The Broken Road." - RJ Frometa, Vents Magazine
"Carlson has taken singer/songwriter to a new level. Her songs have that innocence of early Mitchell with that blueish sound of Plant and Waters. Carlson can easily lay her hat with greatest. Impressive sound all around." - Phil King, AudioFuzz
Yes, the young woman with the dark, blond locks has heard she looks like Taylor Swift. The 21-year-old Chelsea Carlson has even been mistaken for the slightly older superstar. But when Carlson makes her Florida debut Sunday at Soma Creek Side in Bradenton don’t expect to hear any of Taylor’s country-pop tunes; or anything that falls neatly into the “modern country” or “pop” categories. Carlson is a rocker. She loves Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin and has a rich, sultry voice that blows away Swift’s puny singing.
- Wade Tatangelo - Ticket Sarasota Magazine
"Chelsea Carlson is a young woman on the rise...with a popular song, a JAM Award, and an eye toward expanding her reach beyond her Morris County environs." - Aquarian Weekly - Hal B. Selzer
"Chelsea Carlson...blew us away with her powerful voice. She is certainly someone to watch out for in the Indie and Mainstream Music Industry." - Isaac Davis Junior
It's been a pretty exciting week for roots-rock inspired Chelsea Carlson...the on the rise singer-songwriter shares one of her best and most personal tracks to date, 'Ain't Done Yet.' - Mike Mehalick, Speak Into My Good Eye
The new year brings new challenges. For some Morris County residents, those challenges will be particularly big and interesting...In 2013 the up-and-coming musician is scheduled to perform with Half Moon Revival, a Janis Joplin tribute band; cut her first album of original tunes; and study in New Orleans. - Lorraine Ash, Daily Record
Inspired by the greats...Chelsea uses their classic musical success and combines it with her own modern rock edge. She is a breath of fresh air and very unique in her style both in her music and in person. - Lindsay Klein, WDHA's Homegrown Spotlight
"But every so often, a newcomer hits the scene. Someone like Chelsea Carlson...a student at Berklee College of Music, the largest and one of the most respected independent college of contemporary music in the world, she’s also just finished recording her first original single...Fans may expect Carlson to list a slew of current artists among her influences, given her young age. They’d be surprised." - John Dowgin, East Brunswick Patch
"...the next big thing might be from your own backyard... Wherever she goes, people are starting to take notice of Carlson's talents." - Gerard Longo, Long Valley Patch
"A rocking break up song, 'Used to Be' evokes some of the soulful vocal styles, attitue, and musicality of female rockers such as Grace Potter and Heart's Anne Wilson... The end result came with lush harmonies and gritty guitar solos accompany Carlson's cutting lyrics." - Brian Falzarano, West Orange Patch
"Of course Chelsea Carlson's goal is to be a rockstar... Audiences are surprised... when they hear she's not like [Taylor] Swift but has her own style." - Phil Garber, Mt. Olive Chronicle
From the very first, crystal-clear, sound of the guitar, to the absolute beauty of Chelsea Carlson’s voice, you know you’re listening to something different, very different indeed. The young singer-songwriter, with a “wise energy to her soul” (WDHA 105.5 FM), cites a variety of rock influences, ranging from classic greats, Robert Plant, Janis Joplin and Roger Waters, to modern-day rockers, Foo Fighters and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. After returning to New Jersey from Berklee College of Music in 2011, Carlson quickly began playing various festivals and local venues. Is there something at Berklee College of Music that brings out the best in artists? Of well, I just know Carlson has taken singer/songwriter to a new level. Her songs have that innocence of early Mitchell with that blueish sound of Plant and Waters. Carlson can easily lay her hat with greatest. Impressive sound all around. - Phil King, AudioFuzz

Bio
Chelsea Carlson is an award-winning singer/songwriter living in Brick, NJ. She has over a decade of musical experience under her belt, from attending Berklee College of Music to winning Top New Female Act at the 2013 Jersey Acoustic Music Awards, to having her debut album "The Broken Road" premiere in Songwriting Magazine in 2016. She has played at over 100 venues and festivals throughout the tri-state area including the Hard Rock Cafe, Bitter End, Wonder Bar, Maxwell's Tavern, Stanhope House, and more. Chelsea's original music has been described as powerful, raw, and catchy. A lover of many types of music, Chelsea has forged her own style that captures the emotion of alternative music, the soul of rock, the storytelling of folk, and the hooks of pop music, and turns it into something new and exciting. After a brief stint performing under the stagename Carlsea in 2018, Chelsea has returned to performing under her real name and is currently working on new original music. Her latest work, a self-produced album of traditional holiday songs called "A Cozy Christmas, was released in 2020 and made it's Spotify debut in 2021.
In recent years, Chelsea has followed her love of performance on new adventures, including roles in community theater plays such as "It's a Wonderful Life" at County College of Morris, short films such as "The Sugartits: A Pop Star Parody," and has been part of the cast of the New Jersey Renaissance Faire since 2016. She also is part of a folk trio called Bardy Pardy, which is currently in production for their first album together. In 2021, Chelsea joined the Artist Collective Troupe, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the arts in the greater Monmouth and Ocean County NJ area, as Director of Music and Media. Additionally, Chelsea has also taught music lessons since 2010.
When she is not performing, you can find Chelsea playing with her adorable cats, pouring over travel websites, cooking crazy recipes, trying (and failing) to learn German, and re-watching "Avatar: The Last Airbender" for the 100th time.
