""Mess of Things" Nominated in Several Major Categories For GRAMMYS"

I am happy to announce that a very gifted artist/songwriter that I have the privilege of performing with - Carla Bean, as well as her producer/bass player, Rubin Edwards (of Ru Ba Groov Music & Publishing) - are 1st Round Nominees for the next 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards!

"New Artist Critique"

Carla Bean specializes in pop
songs with an innate theatricality,
unusual chord progressions and edgy
undercurrents that, while imaginative,
make her recordings an acquired
taste. With funky beats and a horn
section, "Mess of Things" manages
to retain its hooky spine. "Unfamilar
Walls" features esoteric, obtuse lyrics
and has a rich arrangement that keeps
the listener engaged. Accented by
accordian, "Superman" is a clever
riff on the superhero tag. Like all of
Bean's material, it goes outside the
boundaries of popsong formula.

"Indie-Music.com top 25"

"This slight dance track features an enjoyably loopy beat and kooky electronic instrumental elements, as well as Carla Bean's variety layered vocals"
Dan MacIntosh - Indie-Music.com

"Music Up Close With Janie"

Let’s stroll over her to a more intimate table where we have three very different artists. The first is Carla Bean, a Philadelphia Fringe-Pop artist whose performances range from jazz to funk to euro-pop. She can deliver a soulful pop song or a quirky indie rockish tune and then do her own exquisite rendering of a Bonnie Raitt ballad. Playing keys and backed by Rubin Edwards (electric bass and backup vocals) and a variety of rotating drummers, her performances are eclectic and riveting, laden with a richness of voice that is delicious. She is currently promoting her digital single, “Magic Box.” - Skope Magazine

"Mike Cameo's top 10"

"Whimsy and quirk are always essential ingredients" for Philadelphia's CARLA BEAN In this funny and eccentric gal you'll find a little funk, a little 'Fringe-pop,' a smackerel of gypsy blues, some Fiona Apple-esque meanderings, and one glug of Nora Jones. - http://indiestop10.com

11/01/12: Debut Album "Mess of Things" 1st Round Nominee for the next 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards in Several Major Categories

If you HAD to compare Carla Bean to any other Artist...

Take some theatrical vocal harmonies from Queen and Abba; Eccentric synths and grooves from David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, and Depeche mode; Sultry and Powerful Vocals from Annie Lennox, Fiona Apple, Lauryn Hill, Sara Bareilles, and Bjork; Intelligent and complex composition and keyboard playing, from Stevie Wonder; And a sarcastic, humorous personality from Tom Waits... Then you would have maybe one of Carla Bean's songs. You'll Have to come up with your own recipes for the rest.

Whatever the song; the production and arrangement is clean pristine and competitive. And Her live performance is tight, energetic, funky, and it downright rocks.

Ms. Bean was born in a tiny tiny town, just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This town contained a Gothic cathedral, a Medieval castle, a few European mansions, and a whole mess of forest and meadows. Carla Bean believes her imagination was allowed to thrive because of her unique up-bringing. The childhood hallucinations and night terrors probably didn't hurt either. If you listen to her music, you'll know, that whimsy and quirk are always essential ingredients.

Her mother, a creative writer and poet, and her father, a musician and visual artist, infused Bean with the bug for all things musical, artistic, and creative. She started playing her father's various pianos, organs, Wurlitzer, accordions; and singing at the top of her lungs when she was supposed to be excited about dolls and Disney World. She was drawing twisted creatures in school, when she was supposed to be taking quizzes. Carla Bean got a disturbing amount of mileage out of the sticks and rocks that the woods provided her.

After years of being an essential ingredient in other bands, such as Fresh Cut Salads, Carla Bean teamed up with Producer and extraordinary musician, Rubin Edwards to take her own music to the next level. She has just released her first solo song and video “Magic Box” to lure unsuspecting folk into her Pied Piper sound-trail, so that we may all be in one place when she drops her album of saucy songs on our asses in August of 2012!
