"Steppin Out"

Solomon is a gentle, often humorous songwriter who writes catchy literate songs that reference everything from Hank Williams to the Flintstones. - Gresham Outlook

"Songwriter Review"

“Carl Solomon is at once unassuming and captivating. Like an old friend telling a story you think you’ve heard 20 times but then you close your eyes and really listen ,really listen and it’s hearing that old story for the first time. That’s Carl Solomon an Old Friend telling an old story that seems new - Dan Weber - Award winning songwriter/musician

Even though his music is tinged with humor, Carl Solomon's songs have the earnest approach of their Appalachian and country/western/folk roots. The guitar and back-up on his engaging new CD compliment Carl's honest and endearing vocal style. The songs combine simplicity, warmth and depth. He feels like an old and welcome friend from the first listen. Be careful, though the songs will stick with you, especially Those Two Crows.

Your Crow song is on my playlist yet again tomorrow morning. I just LOVE It!!!
I sorta wish I could play it non-stop throughout my entire hour-and-a-half long. show, it's that good. Alas, I must sprinkle the program with others...but I'll save you till the peak
listening moment: shortly before 7am tomorrow!

Biography

Carl Solomon has been described as "A Weaver of New Americana Folk Tales."  After inheriting a beat poet's name, Carl grew up in Brooklyn N.Y. and later moved to Baltimore.  Carl's kaleidoscope of songs are crafted from his diverse & varied life experiences, a few of which include: Carnival Barker, Clerk, Counselor, Musician and Songwriter. Using his observation and insight into human relationships, Carl has crafted unique stories from the many folks he has encountered in his travels.  Solomon's songs lay out images you can see, feel and touch. His recollections and humor bring to life a collection of wonderful songs you won't soon forget!

Carl has his own voice.  A traveler at the Portland Airport, approached Carl saying I just had to follow the sounds of the music.  I had to see if it was really Greg Brown singing in the concourse, I had to get a CD.  Carl s influences are songwriters/storytellers: Townes Van Zandt, John Prine, Bruce Springsteen, Guy Clark and Woody Guthrie.

Additional Information About Carl Solomon:

Solomon Crow:

Recently, I have formed the band "SOLOMON CROW."  The roots of our band consist of a trio: Carl on guitar, a percussionist, and a bass player.  In addition, 'drop in' artists play banjo, mandolin and sing back-up vocals.  We perform my original songs, and we may  sprinkle in a few covers. While I still play solo acoustic, sometimes I'll add some electric guitar to the mix.  Playing electric adds greater dimension to our music and gives Solomon Crow the flexibility to play a greater selection of venues.

Soldier Songs and Voices PDX:

I feel very blessed to be doing what I do- writing and performing music.  I connected with a friend in Austin who was teaching returning vets songwriting and guitar as part of a national program. I organized a small band of Portland Songwriters and started a chapter in Portland.

Performance and Studio

Last March I was selected as a Portland International Airport performer.  This honor helped me polish and improve my performance skills. Likewise, it has enhanced my ability to connect with audiences. I have been out of the studio for eighteen months, during which time, I've been constantly writing new songs.  This month, I've begun the process for recording new demos, building to a new CD.
