Bio
Captain? Jacks Army was formed in early 2011 by friends Pr Palm, Jonas Gustavsson, Jack Karlsson, Jan Hjerstrm and Stefan Lidn.
The thought was to create a band that saluted bands like Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys. Most of the guys already played in other bands at the time being and thought this to be more of a fun side project. Captain Jack of course is the drummer Jack.?
They thought that a banjo was essential to a tribute band of the sort that they wanted to form so Stefan - a guitar player from the beginning went to the store, bought a banjo and started to learn by ear. When a friend of a friend - bass player Andy Pettersson - heard of the band he was quick to join since he had wanted to be in a band that played Flogging and Dropkick songs for years. Jan Hjerstrm who originally played the bass now took up the guitar.
By mere circumstance the guys heard that Alexandra Ekelf - a violinist had just moved to town looking for other musicians so they quickly made contact, and now they were 7.
In march 2011 the band had its premiere gig in the city of Norrkping, playing songs by Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly. The band quickly started to build up a reputation after this becoming one of the best live bands in the region exploding with energy and pure happiness.
Due to family circumstance Jan Hjerstrm had to leave the band a couple of months after Norrkping and was replaced by Daniel Bris Brefelt on guitar.
In august of 2011 the band found Oscar Ullason, an accordion player from Trans and the band was complete. Shortly thereafter Captain Jacks Army had two performances that really put down the ground work of showing people who CJA was. The first one was in Trdgrdsfreningen, an outdoor gig when the sun still was up and the crowd was a vast mixture of children, teens, adults and grandparents. Afterwards the arranger approached the band with the sentence You are the first band in 7 years during this event that got people to stand up and dance.
The other gig was at Munken in Norrkping where the band for the first time left the stage and went out in the crowd, dancing, singing and playing. This would shortly become one of the bands most appreciated qualities.
Gigs followed and CJA got a one page interview in the magazine 013 and a couple of smaller articles in random newspapers in areas where theyd played.
During the year of 2012 the band felt that they wanted to express themselves even more and started to write their own material, integrating these more and more in the gigs. The band is still first and foremost for fun and will never seize to be just that, but it has also started to take a bigger part in all of the band members lives, more than just the cover band that it was meant to be in the beginning. CJA has evolved into something more which is truly exciting.
In the fall of 2012 Captain Jacks Army released its first single, One for all and an EP is to be released this spring. The band has also been invited to play abroad and is now planning the first tour to Scotland in 2013.
In september of 2012 the banjo player Stefan Lidn unfortunately had to leave the band, a very sad moment for everyone involved. Instead of looking for another banjo player however one of the guitarists - Jonas Gustavsson will alternate between guitar, banjo and mandolin.
