You may find your folk ‘n’ fun thrill on Porcupine Hill, the easygoing debut from Montreal quartet Burrows. Silly in disposition but serious about well-constructed, upbeat ukulele pop, vocalist Desiree Gordon sweetly laments her technology-obsessed beau and peruses the Craigslist personal ads without sounding cloying. And when she sings about your half-full glass being half-full of shit, you’re reminded even tiny porcupines have quills. 7.5/10 Trial Track: “Loan on the Earth” (Erik Leijon) CD launch at Trois Minots, Fri., March 25 - Montreal Mirror

Bio
Singer-songwriter Desiree Gordon and guitarist Liam Frier grew up together on the south shore of Nova Scotia. In their early adulthood they began playing music together. They migrated to Montreal, as so many musicians do, where they formed Burrows, after enlisting upright bassist James Aldridge and drummer Alex Thibault, in the fall of 2010.
The songs cover a wide variety of topics; frustrations with technology, clean freaks, cephlapods and the moon (to name a few more than a few).
Alex left the band in the fall of 2011 and now Guillaume Pilot plays with them, he is a close friend of James' which adds to the on stage dynamics.
They released their first album, Porcupine Hill, independently on March 24th 2011, and have since toured the West and East Coasts of Canada, and some of the United States. They are currently working on new music and booking a tour of Eastern Canada. They plan on recording their follow up in early September.
