The comparisons are there, from Ray LaMontagne to Leonard Cohen, but what you hear is something that is all together Smith's own brand of soul-filled folk songs. With the influences running everywhere from Joe Purdy and Kelly Joe Phelps, to Otis Redding and Ray Charles, and even to artists like Willie Nelson and Hank Williams Sr., it’s easy to see where the love for emotion and songwriting comes from. For Smith music is not only what he wants to do, but was something he needs to do. Smith has been touring throughout North America playing everywhere from Montreal to Vancouver, Los Angeles to New York and everywhere in between.
