Sylvania Branch is Home Studio for Local Musicians

Toledo Lucas County Public Library branches are neighborhood hubs fulfilling customers’ informational and entertainment needs. For Brandi Carter, the Sylvania Branch also serves as a professional studio for her music.

“I can safely say I’ve saved thousands of dollars doing this, between studio time and printing. It’s awesome,” Carter said. “I started coming here literally every day for weeks at a time.”

A Community Studio

Carter, 32, of Toledo, primarily performs rap and hip-hop music under the name Breezi StreetMuzik. Private studio time – at roughly $100 per hour, plus mastering fees – proved to be a luxury. So, she turned to the Library. Carter utilized the Sylvania Branch’s studio lab with microphone, computers, mixing consoles and editing software. She has recorded more than two dozen songs at the branch, drawing favorable coverage from digital music publications.

“You can sing. You can record instruments. You can make beats,” she said. “This whole program, there’s so much that you can do with it.”

Carter transfers songs to her laptop, where she creates CD’s to sell at shows. She further prints her own album booklets at the Library for 45 cents per copy, instead of $5 per CD elsewhere. Cutting distribution costs for hundreds of copies helped Carter pay expenses from her recent performances in Detroit and Tupelo, Mississippi. It also empowers her to focus on music.

David Knowles

Carter’s recording partner, David Knowles, 41, of Toledo, performs under the name D-Boi. Knowles has worked in music for more than 20 years, and said many private studios are much less accommodating. He was pleased to learn about the Library’s exceptional equipment. This studio is a creative outlet for all ages.

“When she first told me, I had to see it for myself,” Knowles said. “They put a full-fledged studio in the Library, and let you record for free.”

The Sound of Music

The Library’s studio technology is free for your use and easy to understand. There is also studio equipment at Main Library, King Road Branch, Mott Branch and West Toledo Branch. Best of all, it’s just one part of the Library’s vast offerings. Cricut machines and 3D printers buzz regularly with activity. We cannot wait to see what you create next.

Brandi Carter known by her stage name Breezi Streetmuzik is a 33 year old new and upcoming female rapper who's captivating skills have began to win hearts all over the world. As if her voice and spicy attitude mixed with her determination were not already enough this young lady has an amazing story to tell. Growing up on the EastSide of Toledo,Ohio Mrs.Carter was like any normal child expect she had was determined to be a musician. Around the age of 12 after one late night she spent discussing music with her grandmother she decided to write her first song titled "No one knows me better". Determined to make her grandmother and parents proud she decided to keep writing. But, her dream would end soon there after due to a tragic domestic violence situation that landed her unconscious and struggling to survive. Mrs.Carter at that point in time decided to give music up and concetrate on her life gaining her high school diploma.
It wasn't until many years later with a random meeting of her now husband Jamal Carter she would again find herself in the midst of music. What always was just a dream became a reality in 2019 when she recorded her first feature with her husband J-Mack Streetmuzik "Laced Up". Star struck and amazed by the sound Mrs.Carter had he decided to thrust her into the spotlight. Shortly thereafter, Mrs.Carter realeased her own first single "Fly Away" and has sense amazed us with hot track after track. Now a year and a half later Mrs.Carter has been on many radiostations, and is now able to be found on all platforms.With a whooping 96 tracks and features she is currently selling albums and songs in countries aroud the world. This type of determination and dedication is exactly what the music industry needs. On top of being a full-time artist Mrs.Carter also records and produces all her own music, all while managing a record label and her husbands career. We don't know how she can do! Did we mention she also has 4 kids as well as runs a youth program in the city to help kids learn the ins and outs of art. If you haven't became a fan of her's yet we dare you to watch her on stage or listen to one song you'll be hooked I know we were!!!!
