"I just to sing"

" I mentioned that Mr. Jarod is self taught on guitar because I think it is of utmost importance. His playing sounds fresh and organic and is clearly not limited by established stylistic structures. I think the only rule he applies is that no matter what, the music has to sound good, and boy howdy, does it! The six songs that make up "The Crush EP" run the gamut. An insistent drum beat opens "Falling into place" before the guitar and bass kick in to bring in the good times. "Put it in a love song" is a dam near perfect Pop/Rock gem. "The Crush" is a wonderful Rock/R&B hybrid ballad, that swings like a wrecking ball. And "Cream" wraps things nicely with some killer up-tempo Blues/Rock.

All these songs are great, there's something else that stands out. Brandon Jarod's vocals are something else! He mixes your standard Rock vocals heavily with what you might hear from a R&B singer. The result is unique and decidedly memorable. Wave riders, Brandon Jarod is an artist you need to check out right now!

Think, if his debut EP is this good, what does he (along with his cohorts) have in store for us down the road? I'm eager to find out and after you listen to "The Crush" you will too!"

- The Ripple Effect

"At this annual benefit, one up-and-comer stands out."

Brandon sways with the music, shaking his head rhythmically while Tyrone Jordan provides a thick bass tone that compliments the song perfectly. Bryan Adkins sporadically beats on his drums, switching up from basic pop beats and then pulling out a lot of cymbal work to create a slight hip-hop feel during the chorus. The entire band plays with practiced precision, and you could tell that they enjoyed every second of it. Brandon busts out a ripping guitar solo, pouring every ounce of emotion he can into the climax of “Put it in a Love Song.” - www.magazine33.com

Brandon Jarod - Put It In a Love Song

Posted 4 days ago
Brandon Jarod's single "Put It In A Love Song" from his debut album, The Crush, is enjoyable and unique, incorporating elements of rock, metal, blues, pop and R&B. Romantic and hopeful, the track is upbeat and happening. A self-taught guitarist who learned by practicing 10 hours a day from the age of 18, Brandon shows that his skills are definitely on par with the best of the rest, as he lays down a funky guitar solo in "Put It In A Love Song".

Said simply, the lyrics to "Put It In A Love Song" are beautiful: "Wishing I could just show you/So I can capture that look in your eyes when I do/"... and later "Hands down, you're by far the best I've ever known/No need to feel nervous, I won't do you wrong/I want to put it in a love song/Feel my chest/I'm a mess over you.../Sometimes I can't find the words/I guess I've got to just show you/Put it in a love song/."

With the release of his new track and EP/CD, Brandon has established himself as an artist with huge potential and a fresh sound forged from years of experiences. Comfortable with at least fourteen different genres, this is one artist whose versatility is admirable to say the least, and if this album is indicative of future success, he'll be around for a while to come.

Brandon Jarod and his band performed at the 45 Degrees Martini Lounge in
Chesapeake, Virginia on January 11, 2011. The band includes Tyrone
Jordan on bass, Brian Athens on drums, and Brandon singing vocals and
playing guitar. The video is a live performance of the song "The Crush"
from the album/EP of the same name, which is available on iTunes and
Amazon. The song, which is a slow tempo mix of pop, rock, and R&B,
is about relationships. "The Crush" speaks to the darker side of love in
which there is pain, with lyrics that include the statements: "True
love gets hard sometimes," "I'm going to make you beg for mercy," and
"Going to find my revenge on Valentine's". It's a moving performance by
Brandon and company, though somewhat hard to hear at times. Brandon
showcases his talent as a guitarist with a nice solo that adds just the
right touch to a heartfelt composition.

The spirit of Jimi is no doubt in this new artist, from the bottom of our hopes. Brandon Jarod is nothing but the truth, with his debut release "The Crush" many who hear his music believe they are seeing the rebirth of an era we all just loved.

Brandon Jarod (Jah-rod) "The Crush" was born in Milwaukee, WI to working class parents on March 16, 1986. A quiet yet inquisitive child, Brandon would often entertain himself with drawing and writing imaginative short stories. Though he didn't come from a musical family, Brandon's father was an avid listener of the band Parliament Funkadelic which Brandon would recount as "the first music I remember hearing." Seeing him play air guitar on a baseball bat, his mother made him his first guitar with rubber bands for strings, a cereal box for a body and a paper towel roll for a neck. Seeing his interest for music, she eventually enrolled Brandon in his school choir and orchestra playing the trumpet.

The family eventually picked up and moved south to Virginia Beach, VA when he was 11 years old. The slightly traumatic event effected Brandon in such a way that he discontinued his singing, trumpet playing, and any other form of music for years. It wasn't until his 18th birthday that his mother bought him his first real guitar and for the next year, Brandon would spend up to 10 hours a day locked in his room teaching himself how to play it. Over the next 4 years Brandon would play in over 15 bands of various styles ranging from R&B, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Gospel and Blues quickly becoming one of the most talented and in demand guitarist in the area, drawing comparisons to Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. It was these formative years that would prove to be irreplaceable in Brandon's development as a musician and an artist in his own right...playing along with and opening for Jasmine Sullivan, Jaguar Wright, The Clipse, The Zapp Band and The Cool Kids.

In 2009 Brandon met drummer Bryan Adkins at a jam session at a popular open mic in Norfolk, VA. The two immediately found an admiration and chemistry in each other's playing and it wasn't long until they starting rehearsing together on a regular basis. In 2010, Brandon decided to create Nicobe Records as well as his own publishing company. Recording sessions came shortly thereafter producing new music that would soon come to be known as his debut 6 song EP entitled "The Crush." With its release, Brandon established himself as an artist with huge potential and a fresh sound forged from years of experiences.

Listen carefully to the lyrics of No Solution..., Put it in a love song, Cream and "The Crush". You will agree musically how things are Falling into place for this new Star!

"Every 10 years music has to go somewhere. 50 years from now I want people to look back on the years 2010 to 2020 and say that I was among the pioneers pushing new music to where it was supposed to go."- Brandon Jarod
