“Being the Saturday after the WAMi weekend, it could be understandable punters may be experiencing pop-fatigue. But apparently we can’t get enough, judging by the sheer force of support on Saturday night at the sell-out show for doo-wop-pop sensation Boom! Bap! Pow!
The stream of people through the door became incessant. That is, until the bar manager came out with the triumphant ‘sold out’ chalkboard, making it official that Mojo’s was the place to be.
There are some things for which we would like to fuel up the DeLorean and travel back time; like milks bars, roller-waitresses… that fifth beer. Though these things may be lost, Boom! Bap! Pow! are ensuring they are certainly not forgotten.
Soul-drenched track Survivor was a particular favourite and showed off the band’s strengths, not only as musicians, but first-rate entertainers. Quite clearly, all members have an easy rapport, which rubs off on the crowd and suits the mo-town vibe perfectly. Vocalist Novac Bull effortlessly cuts through the instrumental with a cool sass.
The group’s greatest challenge is also perhaps their strongest asset, because while it is rare to find scenesters who would say they are specifically into doo-wop, certainly no one seems to have anything at all against it. So while the sound may be niche, it has the ability to captivate across genre, as proven on Saturday night.
Not surprisingly, Boom! Bap! Pow! have won over many lovers of all music styles with their old-style sexy, smooth sax and good, clean fun. The only thing Boom! Bap! Pow! needs now is a bigger venue.” LAURA GLITSOS – Xpress Magazine, May 2009

"It's recognisable but its a fresh sound too! Everything works...from the infectious swing of the song right down to the sha-na-nahs. Pull on those dancing shoes, this is the best night out you've had in ages."

The Radiothon Room was rocking. In a night where the women shone, Boom! Bap! Pow!’s lead singer Novac had the crowd smiling every time she opened her mouth. Perhaps the most dapper band in town, BBP! Showed why they’ve been building such an impressive following over the last year with a blistering set.

Perth Rock n' Soul merchants Boom! Bap! Pow! are a band that know how to work their crowd the old fashioned way. They've spent the last few years clocking up kilometres and appearing on just about every stage on offer. Give them a few planks of wood to jive on and an audience to sway and Boom! Bap! Pow! will put their heads down and get down to business. The rest of the country has also fallen for their lightning-in-a-bottle style as they've toured with the likes of Eli 'Paperboy' Reed, Lake Street Dive and Royal Crown Revue, played huge national festivals such as Queenscliffe and Laneway and won a multitude of plaudits far and wide.
Two years on from the release of sophomore album So Heavy, lead single ‘Suit’ is showing no signs of going away. After being selected by the the likes of Bonds, Value City Furniture (US) and GILT the track has recently been commissioned by Diet Coke and Microsoft for their respective Economy Class and Surface Pro 23 campaigns, which has seen the 2013 WAM Pop Song of The Year award winner connect with a worldwide audience. Currently sitting on 430,000 views Youtube Views, over 160,000 stream, 20,000 plus sales, 34,000 Shazams Suit is showing no signs of slowing down as it makes it's way around the world like the little song that could.
Currently working on the follow up to So Heavy, Boom! Bap! Pow! will be hitting the studio and touring extensively, including international dates, as they head deeper into 2015. Be sure not to miss the amalgamation of celebratory sounds and undeniable hooks that Bull and her tight-as-a-drum cohorts prove their reputation on.
