Bombargo, an incredibly talented band from Saskatoon, Canada, recently released a 5 track EP entitled Back On Main. Filled with wonderful melodies, great riffs, and layers of rock, pop, blues, soul and funk influences, this album has me wondering why I haven’t heard of these guys before! . The opening track, ‘I Need Help‘, is a beautiful ballad, with a blues-pop vibe, and a way cool vocal track. ‘Make It Mine‘ offers a dynamite fuzz sound, while ‘Let It Grow‘ delivers a soulful blues vibe. The blues-rock-funk feel of ‘That Sound‘ reminds me of The Black Crowes, and the changes are outstanding. My favorite track, ‘The Wave‘ gives up a wonderful melody, with great changes, an unforgettable chorus and hook, and some incredibly sweet, cool guitar.
Bombargo have nailed it. A wonderful blend of rock, blues, and soul, captured in incredibly well written songs, that deliver a devastatingly full sound. The ballads are dramatic as hell, and the vocals, which drive the album, just kill. I have listened to this several times, and can’t see myself stopping. I am addicted. I am a fan. You need to check this out: http://bombargo.bandcamp.com/album/back-on-main, and please support the cause-all proceeds will be given to the Saskatchewan Fire Relief. Pretty cool. Definitely on the list for consideration as the 2015, I Can’t Believe My Earz Indie Album Of The Year. - Bobby Goatsman
Smooth, laid back instrumentation frames the latest tracks from Bombargo. The track has a nice amble, and those guitars never once lose their DeMarco jangle cool – that is, until they suddenly leap into a tightly-wound breakdown amidst some greatly broody background noises. - Chris Morin
Saskatoon-based band Bombargo is excited to be starting the new year by heading to Lloydminster, see some friends, and make its first Alberta show.
The alternative rock band, made up of Nathan Thoen (vocals), Todd Spence (guitar), and Phil Kashap (drums), makes music that ranges from funk, soul, rock and roll, with a little bit of Indie rock mixed in to take audiences on a musical journey.
Thoen said attendees could expect a super exciting show, and the band likes to make sure people are having fun, moving around, and getting stoked as they play their original songs.
“In our set, we’ll maybe play like one cover tops, so we play all our own music as much as we can,” Thoen said. “It’s sort of a fresh sound, and so far we’ve been getting a really rad response; we’re really stoked to go and play in Lloyd.”
The band is currently working on its full-length debut album and went in the studio on Jan. 6 to begin the recording process. They are working with producer S.J. Kardash, of Full Color Studios, who recorded their debut EP, Back on Main, released in July 2015, and Thoen said the band members are very excited to be back in the studio with him. The plan is for the album to have 11 songs, but at this point the band has only a rough timeline regarding a release date to make sure they do everything right with the recording process and the designing of the artwork for the album.
In addition, Bombargo has recently shot a music video for their song Precious Time (Lately) with Saskatoon videographer Matt Smith.
“We’re really excited, and the public has been taking it really well,” Thoen said. “We’ve been getting messages from across Canada and into the States from people that haven’t heard of us, or some that are really excited about the sound, so we were thrilled to sort of see people liking it, but then as always, I think it’s every artist sort of thing that I am a lot more excited for the new stuff, and really want to see where that goes, and how that goes as we record it.”
For 2016, Thoen said the band has tons of shows lined up. After Lloydminster, they will be playing in Calgary on Jan. 30 before heading off to the west coast with stops scheduled for Vancouver Island before heading back to Saskatoon. They have also recorded a new single, a funk song, Like You Just a Little Bit More, which they are planning to release in the near future.
Bombargo will be playing at The Root Community Emporium on Friday, Jan. 22. Admission price for the show is $10.
“For anyone in Lloyd that’s looking to come out and have a fun night, we’re kind of a unique band, we like having fun and making sure people are moving and enjoying themselves, and we like to give our all to everything we do,” Thoen said. “If they’re coming out, they’re ready for some passion and some fun groovy times.” - Simon Arseneau
Taylor Swift shared her very first Spotify playlist this week, featuring all her favourite songs at the moment. But the curated list wasn’t limited to mainstream artists: the roundup contains 43 songs all from a variety of music genres, from hip-hop to indie.
The playlist — titled “Songs Taylor Loves” — showcases well-known fan favourites like Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran and Charlie XCX, as well as some hidden gems. One of the names caught our eye: Canadian Indie band Bombargo. Apart from being the only Canadian Indie band to make the covetable list, they’re also the only unsigned artists to make the cut.

“We are the most indie band of all time, I even make all the merch and shoot and edit all the videos. It’s just us, and this is the very first Spotify playlist we’ve ever been added to, and it’s Taylor Swift’s official Spotify playlist, how did she find us?” says Nathan Thoen, Bombargo’s lead singer.
Bombargo, which is just three-years old, is a Saskatoon band of brothers and friends. When asked to describe their sound, Theon says, “it’s a funky, soulful, rock-y way to move and groove.”
Reflecting back on how their T-Swift approved song “Mr. No Good” was produced, the band said that it was a quick process. “We wrote the song in 15 minutes, 15 minutes! I just freestyled the lyrics and there it was.”
Turns out making a kick-ass song isn’t that hard after all! And it turns out Swift has good ear for soulful indie music — not just the stars right under the spotlight. For more of Taylor Swifts favourite 43 songs right now, check out the entire playlist below. - Fashion magazine

Bombargo drops a vibrant splash of soul on their funky indie vibes with layers of rock and R&B infused throughout. The band brings an unrivalled energy to the stage with sing along anthems, magical harmonies, and a powerful message that combined; make for one of the most passionate live shows ever! Even billionaire and Virgin Records founder Sir Richard Branson was impressed, quoting: “I haven’t seen this type of energy since The Rolling Stones!”.
Taylor Swift also has a soft spot for Bombargo, adding their single ‘Mr. No Good’ to her Spotify playlist ‘Songs Taylor Loves’ alongside Ed Sheeran, Camilla Cabello, and Kendrick Lamar. Being part of this star-studded playlist saw Bombargo featured on CBC’s the Q, NME, Exclaim, Fashion, Noisey, People, Billboard and more – leading to their follow up single ‘All the Same’ which reached #1 on Spotify’s Indie All Star playlist.
From headlining festivals to opening for legendary acts like John Butler Trio, Michael Franti & Spearhead, The Dead South, and Joel Plaskett; Bombargo has rapidly made a name for themselves globally with their life changing live performances, captivating music, and The Good Time GuaranteeTM. Just ask lead singer Nathan Thoen - “A lot of bands try to promise you a good time, but we actually guarantee it.”
There’s no doubt that Bombargo is one of the hardest working bands in Canada, setting out for their Spring Fling tour across Canada, releasing yet another single, and recording their 2nd full length record while shooting their feature length film set to coincide with the release.
