Bio
“The Catskills region is one of the most beautiful spots on Earth,” says Roland Hasbrouck, the lead vocalist and lyricist of New Paltz band Black Horse Riders. “It hasn’t been completely spoiled by big city development yet, and there’s a certain raw innocence here that we draw from as musicians.” Hasbrouck certainly has a more reliable handle on the area’s particular qualities than many players, being a descendent of the French settlers and Native Americans who originally inhabited the territory. Black Horse Riders formed with members of the alt country rock and roll group Verdes. Choosing to attain a different sound than the previous incarnation of Verdes, BHR spent most of 2011 writing the new album and living in the studio with producer Kevin McMahon(Titus Andronicus, Walkmen, Swans, Rhett Miller). It is in the gear heaven of Marcata Studios located on a serene setting in Gardener, NY, that the new album was able to come alive. Leaping forward into 2012, the album is finished after the tasteful mastering from Jamal Ruhe of West West Side Studios. Black Horse Riders is setting the stage for an extremely busy year, with an extensive tour schedule through the North America and Europe. The best things are yet to come for BHR, new album is going to drop, th next one is already tracked, and a huge library of about 300 hours of raw material for plenty of records after that. After sharing bills with a wide array of performers such as Ryan Montbleau, Rhett Miller(Old 97's), Larry Cambell and the rest of the Levon Helm Band, Sister Sparrow, and Kung Fu Black Horse Riders are ready for anything.
