Bio
"For just three people, you guys make a big sound." Over the years, the number of people who make this type of comment continues to increase. They are not referring to volume, however, but rather to the fullness and uniqueness of the music Beyond Destiny makes.
From Cheryl Crow to Mary J. Blige, Herbie Hancock to Three Doors Down, Nicole C. Mullen to Shaded Red, Beyond Destiny draws influence from a diverse set of artists and genres. We pride ourselves on simply making music that we love and know that we will have fun playing. We don't try to make ourselves "fit" into any particular genre, but try to use each of our strengths and tastes to meld into a unique, catchy sound we call "Rock and Soul." You may not headbang to our music, but you won't be able to stop bopping your head or getting happy feet. We'll get you involved in the show whenever we can, because we want you to have fun. No matter what though, there will always be three people having a spectacular time.
Nikki Heath is a gifted songwriter from Sweetwater, Texas with an NCAA national basketball championship under her belt. She brings an enormous amount of energy to all her performances and connects with her audience in a way that makes them feel that she is performing just for them.
Matt Cleveland is a classically trained pianist with a heavy jazz/blues influence and an unmatched ear for music. He brings a unique blend of taste and ability to the band, and his complex yet accessible keyboard lines make audience members lean in to hear more. Matt hails from Roswell, New Mexico.
Kevin McSpadden of Rankin, Texas, loves to make music about as much as he likes breathing. He likes to lose himself in the beat, and his "drumming tongue" lets everyone know he's having a blast. Kevin's heart is to make noise for Jesus and hope someone joins along.
Beyond Destiny came into existence when Nikki, Matt, and Kevin, all educators, taught and coached at tiny Sterling City High School. The meeting, the band believes, was God ordained. Since they first began playing (about three years ago), they have developed a collective passion to see people encouraged, challenged, and inspired at every performance. Beyond Destiny encourages listeners to find God in the trials and setbacks of every day life, while continually praising Him for the blessings he is ALWAYS showering on us.
