Trivia question: Who was the winner of the last season of Canadian Idol? Previous seasons were won by Ryan Malcolm, Kalan Porter, Melissa O’Neil, Eva Avila, and Brian Melo. The answer, of course, is Theo Tams. The judges considered Theo the most gifted of all the male vocalists who ever appeared on the show. After hearing his 2008 hit single “Sing” we couldn’t agree more. Theo is also a very talented pianist and composer. One may wonder what he is up to these days.
Theo Tams has formed a duo with Vancouver songstress Carly Jean Campbell (not to be confused with Carly Rae Jepsen who, incidentally, also appeared on Canadian Idol). The duo is going by the name Beyond the Mountain. They describe the music they are making as “alternative country” with soul, blues, and modern rock elements and will be releasing an EP this summer. Every Lennon needs to find his McCartney and every Bachman his Cummings. Apparently Tams and Campbell have hit it off musically with magnificent chemistry. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the music they are making will dazzle the populace like it has dazzled us. Their voices sound perfect together.

Bio
Beyond the Mountain is an acoustic pop/folk band, writing and performing original music out of Toronto. Their distinctive sound a stirring, evocative blend of vocal harmonies, piano, cello, guitar and percussion has steadily earned them a loyal following since 2012. Beyond the Mountain is about overcoming obstacles personal, professional or creative, says Theo Tams (lead vocals/piano), whose powerful yet nuanced voice has earned national acclaim (he won Canadian Idols sixth season). Once youre beyond one mountain, life will undoubtedly throw another at you, sooner or later. Our music is about perseverance, in a sense unapologetically tackling the journey of life. Together with Kyra Crilly (cello/viola/melodica), Jacob Mouka (vocals/guitar) and Ozzie Saunds (percussion), Theo is passionate about writing and sharing honest, compelling songs that reflect the human experience. Beyond the Mountains first single, This Old River, was released on iTunes in the fall of 2012. In the same year, they won Best Singer-Songwriter and Best Song at Torontos Indie Week. They have also performed at Canadian Music Week, the Royal Ontario Museums Friday Night Music Series, the Songwriters Association of Canadas AGM, and many other events. In 2013, the band opened for Brian Wilson at the prestigious Teddy Bear Affair charity gala; shared a stage with The Fugitives, White Ash Falls, The Most Loyal and other musicians at famed Toronto venues such as Lees Palace and the Rivoli; and organized a successful fundraiser for survivors of Typhoon Haiyan. In December, Beyond the Mountain headlined at the Rivoli, playing a special Christmas show to a packed house. Since the spring of 2013, Beyond the Mountain has hosted a popular weekly band night (Velvety Tuesdays) to cultivate and promote the music scene in Torontos east end. Beyond the Mountain is heading into the studio in the spring of 2014 to record an EP of original songs. Contact:
