There are voices capable of taking you to a unique universe, silhouettes that don't go amiss both in you head and heart from the very second you see them. Benjamin Clementine is one of them.
Two years ago, this young British artist decided to leave the London he knew for Paris, in search of the space he needed for his creativity.
He taught himself music on a toy piano he was given for his sixth birthday. Today, at 24, he is a singer-songwriter with an incredible voice, a pianist and a storyteller of the tradition of Randy Newman or Gil Scott-Heron, who travels through folk and blues, to jazz and soul. It's the tale of a mysterious life, a painful past which is unveiled song by song. The story of an other-worldly realm which conjures the likes of Nina Simone, Terry Callier or Screamin' Jay Hawkins.
Benjamin Clementine has recently signed to the new label Behind, created by Lionel Bensemoun (La Clique) and Matthieu Gazier (Ekler'o'shock'), on which his first 3 track piano-vocal EP will be released.
