Bio
"With the harmony, finesse and versatility in terms of dynamic, this is the perfect tune to accompany your procrastination on a gloomy Sunday afternoon. It will place you horizontally and before you know it, twirl your mind." - Milana Jovic (http://arcticdrones.com/)
Belladonna
is a
six-piece band from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Touching all boarders of the
musical spectrum they take their influences from a wide variety of
genres including classical,
hip-hop, post-modern rock, and electronic but have been heavily cited as
an
ambient post-rock collective. Belladonna brings an unique, conceptual perspective to the writing process
creating
rich layers, smooth textures, and driving percussion under the spell of
three-part
harmonies fronted by a powerful and atmospheric female lead vocalist
In December 2013 Belladonna released their self-titled debut EP that has been nominated for Music Nova Scotia Award’s “Alternative Recording of the Year”. Since the production of this EP, Belladonna has been hard at work. In May 2014 they released a three-song EP recorded at NSCC studios at Waterfront Campus. They have had radio play on various shows aired on CBC including “Main Street” in Halifax and “The Signal” with Laurie Brown in Toronto. They have also received airplay from CKDU, most notably on the show “Halifax is Burning”. They were also debuted in the UK by Simon Raymonde, owner of the Bella Union record label and member of the dream-pop trio Cocteau Twins, via the web-based Amazing Radio. Belladonna have also had the honour of being Music Nova Scotia’s “Song of the Day” as well as “Download of the Week” for their single “Sunshowers” off their now nominated EP.
They recently returned home from tour and showcasing at Canadian Music Week. In their home city, Halifax, Belladonna has been playing many gigs thanks to the support of their community. In the last four months these gigs include shows at The Seahorse, The Nook, The Company House, Gus’ Pub, The Wardroom, Michael’s Bar and Grill, and Casino Nova Scotia for Music Nova Scotia’s event “Free Music Fridays”. In June of 2014, The Coast named Belladonna one of the top 15 bands to watch in Halifax.
