Bio

Beat Bodega is a three piece band from Austin, TX. Using an eclectic combination of guitar, bass, drum machines, synthesizers, horns, samples and three part vocal harmonies, their music is a fusion of sorts, combining elements of rock, funk, reggae, electronic, jam, and dance music. The band hails from all corners of the great nation of Texas, and embraces a wide variety of ever changing influences. Some of the more notable bands that Beat Bodega draws from include RHCP, Parliament Funkadelic, Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem, Portugal the Man, TV on the Radio, and of course, The Beatles.

The past year has been a busy one for the band. In January they put out their first release, The Time Is Now EP. In February and March they completed a profitable DIY tour through the midwest in support of the EP. In July they released their debut album Up From The Bottom, which has since begun receiving local and international airplay. In August after winning a fiercely competitive Battle of the Bands, they opened up the first ever Float Fest in San Marcos, sharing the stage with such bands as Grouplove, Portugal the Man, and STRFKR. With an ever increasing regional fan base, and plans to begin recording their second album in November, the future is bright for Beat Bodega.

The guys in the band had all known each other before they got together from previous bands, random craigslist meetings, and mutual friends, but the way they became a band is quite unusual. Bob Floyd (Vocals/Guitar), on a previous tour with a different band had been asked by a fan to play at her wedding in Colorado. The paycheck was worth it and so he agreed, but as the date drew near, he found his old band falling apart. Bob had already begun jamming with Sam Quattlebaum (Bass/Vocals) intent on starting a new project, but with the date of the wedding looming and without a full band, things had to come together very quickly. Bob made a phone call to Nick Balleza (Keyboards/Trumpet/Vocals) to see if he would fill in for the wedding and round out the sound and Nick agreed. However, this new group had to come up with over 3 hours of material in just 3 weeks, and so began practicing every day to achieve that goal. As things came together, they realized they were onto something special...developing a sound and a style unique to their collaboration. The wedding started out a nervous affair, but in the end turned out to be such a smashing success that the band decided to, well...be a band. They have been rocking and rolling ever since.
