Battlelion is a Christian rock band that hails from Paintsville. For those of you not familiar with the area it's about an hour outside of Pikeville in the hills of southeastern Kentucky. They are an atypical rock band combination of two guys and two girls. I think it works wonderfully though. Jonathon "Quaz" Ratliff keeps the beat on drums. Tiffany Ratliff holds down the low end on bass. Natasha Milner delivers the message through her soft vocal stylings. And what would the rock band be without the guitarist? Andy Milner keeps the keeps the guitar side of things alive with some driving rhythms and solid leads. My personal favorite is "Tempter". They did an excellent job of creating tension. At the onset of the track with a standard rhythm and a few strategically sustained notes. Once they come in it's also a song that puts a heavy hand on the drums. About two minutes into it the rhythm breiflytakes an agressive step forward and I wish for more of it. A sequel was even tossed in there for good measure. I've always been a sucker for he 90's style heavy -then light-then heavy again songwriting. And it was acheived pacefully here. "Restore My Soul" pulls back from Battlelion's overall agressive approach. The acoustic guitar and natasha's enchanting vocal leads the song off soon to be accompanied by a light dose of drums, a well placed acoustic solo also makes its way into the mix. This song firmly sets them into the genre of Christian rock. Battlelion is currently working on a "tour de studios" to complete there album. They have worked in a variety of places including Whispering Way, Fedora, and apparently a quite interested trip to Skies Fall Studios. In these studios they are very open in a sense that they want to include everyone in the creation of their album as a collaborative piece of art. Engineers and producers get to be a part of the creative process too. The album not yet titled will be out in late. Battlelion is a female fronted Christian rock band in the vein of Fireflight and Flyleaf. Since 2008 Andy and Natasha Milner, along with a supporting cast of other musicians, have made up the group Battlelion. After 1 album, 2 U.S. summer tours, hundreds of performances, and a successful radio release, the band is still going strong and is embarking on another U.S. tour in the summer of 2012.
They recently went on a national tour and gained radio airplay across the U.S. They are currently #45 on the Christian Rock charts reported by Christian Music Weekly. (1-3-11) The band has worked with engineers from the likes of Ben Kasica of Skillet (Atlantic/INO/Ardent Records), Josh Silverberg of Edison Glass (Credential Records), and Lu Rubino of Story Side B. Their self-released album "Angels Song Still Ringing" has received attention from listeners all over the world.
