Bio
Batida is the brain child of Angolan born and Lisbon raised, Pedro Coquenao aka Dj Mpula. It started has a radio show on Antena 3 (Portuguese National Radio) and RDP Africa. Then evolved to a local record, refered by Antonio Pires, a senior music journalist, as One of the most important records in Angolan and Portuguese music and later to a show featuring researched archive and own filmed footage as well as own built accessories, guest artists, percussions, dances and words. The sound may be described as traditional 70s Angolan music meeting electronic production but there is much more to say about this project. You have to watch it on stage. International debut was released internationally on the referential Soundway Records and praised by reference press, including the record to hear on BBC1 World category by Gilles Peterson in 2012.
