Bio
Six years after
releasing their first EP “La Sauvagerie des heures”, which was recorded in a
single day at the Oscar-Peterson Hall, Bateau Noir returns with a first
self-titled album that blends indie and post-punk influences.
Powerful and
abrasive, the album magnificently captures the raw energy of the band. It also
highlights the dense, intricate guitar work and the rich creativity of the
rhythm section, which goes from breakneck speeds to heavy and hard-hitting
numbers. Recorded in various sessions with Jocelyn
Gagné (Breastfeeders) and Julien Mineau (Malajube, Fontarabie),
the result of this ambitious process was mixed masterfully by Ryan Battistuzzi.
At times
reminiscent of Fugazi, Sonic Youth or Joy Division, the 10 tracks which lay tense and razor-sharp
melodies over short and effective pop structures are sure to catch the
listener’s ears.
Montreal band Bateau Noir has been a purveyor of energetic and melodic
instrumental rock for the last 8 years. The band comprises members of Malajube, Hot Springs, Jacquemort,
Meta Gruau and Moussette. Guitarists Rémy
Nadeau-Aubin, Julien Michalak
and Pascal Dumont-Julien, bassist Frédéric Sauvé and drummer Jean-François Mineau originally released
an EP in 2010 called “La Sauvagerie des heures”. With its new drummer Francis Mineau and its new songs, the
band is currently touring in Quebec with Solids
and Corridor, amongst others. The
new album was launched April 28th at the Ritz PDB in Montréal.
