I'm always here to recommend some bands for y'all to get into, and today it's all about Barely Blind. These guys have been active for 10 years and are perfectly ripe for a label to come by and pick them off the unsigned bands tree. From their first release back in 2007 to now, BB has fine-tuned their sound and have uncovered that makes them unique. Honestly if I had a label I would sang these fellas up! #musicrules.
Here are just five reasons why you should be listening to, Barely Blind.
1. For the most part their music puts me in a GREAT mood. The kind where you want to run around and jump in a pool with your friends!
Especially the tracks off their 2011 LP, Wilder Child of a Thousand Suns.
2. The song, "Inner Child" is insanely catchy! Basically it will set up camp in your brain for days and hang out. Also the music video is filled with great performance shots and confetti.
3. Brad Cuccio's voice. He has a distinct voice that stands out and sticks with you the same way Nate Ruess' does. Also, sounds lovely mixed with the band's guitarist Stephen Salisbury's voice.
4. LIVE! Now I have never seen them live first hand, but my buddy Drew Beringer at Absolute Punk says they are a real treat.
5. NEW MUSIC! I heard a new song they wrote recently -- and it's fantastic! The song is called, "Golden Child" and it was produced by Pierre De Reeder. This guy has worked with everyone including Death Cab for Cutie and Vampire Weekend. I am listening to it right now and I wish I could just embed it in this post; but you will all just have to be patient. BB is also working on a music video for the song and its looks adorable from these Instagram photos.

Buzznet is delighted to exclusively premiere Barely Blind's official video for the tune "Golden Child." The song is infectious, playful, and just pleasing to the senses. The video is equally wonderful and features the band acting silly (and adorable) with a super cute young human. All in all, it's a great way to kick off your Tuesday. - Buzznet

When I heard this song in demo form a few months ago, I knew immediately that I wanted to premiere it on AbsolutePunk. Fast forward a few months later and a recording session with producer Pierre De Reeder (Vampire Weekend, Death Cab For Cutie, Rilo Kiley) and we are now premiering "G O L D E N C H I L D," the newest single from Barely Blind and one of the best indie-pop songs I've heard all year. The musicianship on "G O L D E N C H I L D" is mesmerizing and brings to mind a band like Phoenix while the infectious melodies and harmonies will be trapped in your brain for the rest of the day. Check out the song in the replies and it'll be available for purchase on iTunes tomorrow, August 27th. Stay tuned for the song's video premiere later this week. - Absolutepunk.net
"Seering with unrelenting pop rock anthems right from the start with “Silver Lake” and “Inner Child” the album explodes with raw emotion and words of independence. There’s a clear amount of passion and excitement bottled up into the 10-track release. For lack of better wording the album is a banger and by far one of my favorite albums leaning in the pop spectrum this year. " - Unsigned & Unleashed

"This is a band that have made their own way since the beginning from their first EP’s, 2007’s ‘The Way we Operate’ and 2009’s ‘My Life with a Giant’. Along with these two EP’S they also did a huge amount of DIY touring which lead them toward where they are today. Barely Blind have a very dedicated fan base which should continue to grow if they keep creating great EP’S and albums like they have. " - ChloeEvan.wix.com
"Their lyrics are straightforward, their songs lively and their sound irresistible. That’s what happens when you take hardworking musicians, surround them with their friends and let them do their thing. And why not? It’s a rare, awesome thing to see a band so dedicated to promoting a dead-on, accessible style and Barely Blind thrives by keeping you eye-level, right by their side as they spit their charmingly melodic flavor of rock." - AltarTV
"Their most recent release “Wilder Child Of A Thousand Suns” truly shows how far this band has come. With an ever changing musical landscape, Barely Blind has changed for the better. This album feels as though they have arrived where they were always meant to be. The raw emotion portrayed in this album easily make it their best release to date." - Your Music News
Among all the pop punk bands we see come and go nowadays, it's good to see members of much more defined bands seek and help talented bands come into their own. This is the case with the Groves, TX quartet, Barely Blind, which was produced by Punchline's Steve Soboslai. The band is quirky pop punk at it's best and Soboslai's hand in it just made it all the better. Their debut EP, The Way We Operate has gone on many deaf ears and their tour they've been embarking on might only be kind of semi-successful, but you have to hand it to these guys that they're going to be a band to look out for in the future. Now onto the actual review.
It all begins with a straight up song about teenage angst called "Life On Wilson Street" where vocalist Brad Cuccio chants "What the hell happened to me? This isn't what we wanted". One of the most solid songs on the EP is "Pariah" which showcases some very Punchline-esqe guitar parts and acts as another angry song, where they even talk as far as torture. Whatever these girls (or whoever) did to these guys, they better watch out. My favorite track on the EP is definitely the song that acts as the title track, "Crazy" where Steve Soboslai actually does guest vocals (he also helped write the song), which acts as one of my favorite tracks Soboslai has ever done. His and Cuccio's dueting vocals goes great with the song. If there's any track you should check out, it's that number. "97 Called" is another track of teenage angst and frustration. The chorus speaks for itself "'Cause this just isn't me, baby, watch my head spin, can you hear me scream? This just isn't me, baby can you see me, I'm falling apart at the seams". I did forget to mention that Cuccio and guitarist Caanan Davis share the vocalist duty on different tracks. Davis does them on "97 Called" and "Crowded Room". The most sound track on the whole EP is the final track, "The Way Out" and is a perfect track to keep your anticipation up for their next release.
The Way We Operate is by no means a perfect record, but if you listen to any bands work that they had before they got signed/popular, this is what this sounds like. They look like they're going to be one of those bands in 5 years that everyone was like "Man, I got their EP back in the day and this band is EVERYWHERE now". But secretly, this wont be true, you'll actually only have gotten it off an internet torrent site and burned it to a cd because it'll become a rarity, and you'll have been too busy running around with those bands that have made "it" to realize that these guys are a piece of coal waiting to be cut into a diamond (not saying that your a piece of coal guys). Now that I've managed to look dumb with bad metaphors, go check out Barely Blind, the band you'll be saying "Damn Nathan Lint was right" to in only a few short years.

On your first listen to "Golden Child," Barely Blind's fresh new single, you will no doubt hear the formations of a new dynamic for the relatively seasoned band. Two years in Los Angeles has given the members the time and the inspiration to fully realize the path and vision they want for years to come. Barely Blind has new music that is as forward thinking as its members. They take influences from music as old school as Fleetwood Mac and The Band to newer bands as crafty and refreshing as Phoenix.
"We feel like even in our early days we never really fit one set genre. We've always managed to write songs that set us apart and I think this is true for 'Golden Child' more than any of our previous works. We are in a time where good music is celebrated. Genres don't much matter anymore and that is such a great thing for songwriters. For us Personally, we are able to channel all sorts of styles that we listen to. We find the rhythm and the grooves in everything from UGK to Phoenix, all the way to Black Sabbath. We contribute our wide variety of listening pleasures to our creative awakening in this song and our future album." says, vocalist Bradley Cuccio.
Since Barely Blind's formation over ten years ago, the band has released eps, been on countless tours and paved their own way in the world of online promotion. Upon moving to Los Angeles in the fall of 2011, they released the bands first full length album for free online. With over 15,000 downloads, shows online and around LA county and one east coast tour; they have spent almost all of their time writing for what they feel to be the truest representation of the path they wish to walk with their band.
Motivated by the desire to make a mark in the world of music, Barely Blind is relentless in their mission to write and record an album in Los Angeles. "Its been a dream of us all to record an album out west. LA has always been this great surge of inspiration for us. Looking back on all the talks and planning, it still seems crazy that we are out here. Living, working, writing. Its a dream come true in itself." The dream will forever survive by the hard work and determination in the band Barely Blind.
