"Light-footed bass and cheerful synths create a contrast with the melancholy themes, and turn the song into a digestible, cheerful tune. Gloomy but at the same time very lively, and inviting." - Dansende Beren
"I wish this was the soundtrack to my Bar Mitzvah's highlight reel" - Indie Shuffle
"The bonzo duo Banzai Cliff, consisted by Nicky K and David Ulrich, brings upstage a punkier side of '80s pop, maybe even surf rock, that isn't quite so novel these days, but is an aurora burning bright like all the things we recall and had a meaning once. The sentimental, strange, and frisky tune, Strange Things Are Afoot, is something that not only stands out, but also is a mild interjection of surprise." - Cloudberry Mornings
"Serving as the forthcoming debut album opener, Too Young To Die is a charming lo-fi garage-pop anthem replete with anxiety and the neurosis from a man consumed by the noxious fear of ageing" - ohestee
"US outfit channel the classic punk sound of The Ramones on this stomping new release" - Mystic Sons
It is a bit of an audacious move to delve head strong into The Ramones love of fuzzy rock ‘n’ roll but that’s precisely what Banzai Cliff are up to. What’s surprising is that it really, really works. - Overblown (UK)
Our song of the week is a charming garage pop anthem that accurately reflects the anxiety and neurosis of a man consumed by the terror of aging. Extremely infectious lo-fi sound. - Velvety Blog
“Too Young To Die” has hooks big enough to catch Jaws, and has one of those melodies that makes you wonder the entire time that you’re listening to where you’ve heard it before. It sounds like it could have been recorded nearly any time in the past 60 years without hallmarks of when and where it was created. This type of timelessness isn’t easy to come by, and every time I hear something like it I just have to press repeat until my head explodes. - Pop Occulture

Bio
Taking their name from a WWII monument on the Micronesian island of Saipan, Oakland band Banzai Cliff play lo-fi garage pop that sounds like it was recorded in your big brother’s weed dealer’s bedroom in the summer of 1987. Led by songwriter Nicky Koch, the band's sound is punchy and buoyant, steeped in punk classics. Despite the brash poppiness, Banzai Cliff's lyrics stick to gloomier themes: old heartaches, self-hate, and the ongoing anxiety of aging.
Banzai Cliff's debut album, "Hypothetical Love," was released on March 9th via Tank Beach Tapes.
