“‘This place that’s here before me/Was here before I ever came to take you away,’ emphatically strains Daniel NeSmith on ‘Dirt from which We Came,’ an upbeat, progressive bluegrass tune (and name of the EP) by the Macon, GA five-piece Back City Woods. As their EP title suggests, this debut has the band intently searching their newgrass roots with different ratios of Dave Matthews, Charlie Daniels, Lynard Skynyrd, and Mumford & Sons, across six distinct songs.” - The Examiner

Bio
Back City Woods was formed in 2009 by Daniel NeSmith and Michael Collins as a Macon-based studio project. BCW became a high-energy live act in April of 2010 and has since been actively playing the Southeast circuit.
In 2011, the band released their debut EP, Dirt from Which We Came, recorded in Macon at Star Motel Records (Hank Vegas, Saint Francis, Abby Owens) with recording engineer Rob Evans and mastered at Chase Park Transduction (Drive-By Truckers, Widespread Panic, Cracker) in Athens with Drew Vandenberg, supporting it with shows with Corey Smith, Packway Handle Band, and headlining shows at the 40 Watt in Athens and the Charleston Arts Festival, as well as local radio spins and favorable reviews in the Examiner, the Blue Indian, and several other music magazines and blogs.
In the fall of 2012, BCW traveled back up to Athens and recorded their second EP entitled Around the Bend with David Barbe and his team of engineers at Chase Park Transduction. The band was very pleased with their experience in Athens, recording in a place with so much musical history. People can expect to see the new EP released in the winter of 2013.
