Bio
In the vein of such great bands as Bob Marley and The Wailers, Blue King Brown and the John Butler Trio all of whom the band cite as musical influences - Babylon Burning aren’t afraid to instil their art with political views. Lyrical themes frequently revolve around non-violent resistance to oppression and standing up for ones rights. The bands very name derives from the story of the biblical city of Babylon, which for thousands of years was a centre of oppression and hostility in the Ancient World; only when it was razed to the ground could a new era of peace and learning flourish. We try to use our music as a tool to spread the message of peace and understanding, stated Joseph, keyboardist and co songwriter for the group. And whats the best way to ensure that message is received? Infectious grooves and feel-good times, man!
In early 2010 the band released a demo CD, which led to a string of performances and headline shows. Some of these include headlining the opening night of Fringe event Natural Rhythm at The Crown and Sceptre Hotel, headlining Oxfam’s annual Sustainaball, and playing the Oaktree Foundation’s Tunes for Timor at the Gov.
Babylon Burning successfully released their debut EP ‘Wont Stand Down’ @ Jive to a packed out crowd in July 2011. The band has since toured to Melbourne to promote the release, playing a string of shows alongside Melbourne act ‘San Salvador’.
