AV THE GREAT

AV, is a hip hip MC from Denton, Texas. AV's MC name is derived from the first two letters of his last name. AV has also been said to be an acronym for absolute victory. AV was born in Denton, Texas where he spent his entire childhood and currently resides. His teenage years were spent back and forth between Denton, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia. AV, having lost the stability of his parents to drug abuse, was raised by his maternal grandmother. AV is the creator and host of the Denton, local TV show "The PR Report," the PR stands for Politics and Rhymes. AV is the "man in the city," a title he defends with his continuous involvement in the community. He has created, hosted, and been involved in many movements and events for issues such as education, teen violence, and voter registration.

As a child AV was exposed to the music industry by his uncle, a once successful music executive. AV credits his uncle for his knowledge of the music industry and for helping to develop his rapping skills. He still seeks his uncle's advice and critique before the release of new projects. At age 11 AV started making money as a DJ at local parties, and began writing music. AV ghostwrites hip hop and R&B for many artist in the Dallas, Texas area. He prefers hip hop, R&B, and hard rock, but also enjoys many other genres of music. AV considers himself an artist rather than a rapper. His sound is southern but his content is worldly. AV offers lyrics of honesty over glamor. His beat choices range from loud trunk pop banging beats to instrumental soulful beats. Denton, Texas is located just 20 minutes from Dallas, Texas. Denton is also recognized for it's local music scene in the generes of jazz, indie, rock, and folk. These combinations have overshadowed the deeply rooted and extremely talented hip hop scene Denton has to offer. AV whose slogan is "city on my back, I ain’t talkin bout a tat," is devoted to helping Denton's hip hop become more recognized.
